Trail cam stuff..
« on: December 24, 2023, 06:29:17 PM »
Been working on some winter blocks I gotta haul out to the woods.
I usually sled them in,so this winter is not cooperating well with that.
Also working on another lock box.
I'll update with photo of that when I finish.

Ditching a few spots this year, got some poaching at one spot.
Way too many people at another. Kinda the normal really.
Not complaining at all. Less salt I have to buy anyway.

Excited to set some cameras in some new spots anyway.
Some new spots I might even be able to post some new pics to the
site next year. E-scouting my little brain out.

Not sure I'll be hunting, but I'll play guide and take the kid no matter.

Here's a pic of my hobo freight saw all . I only use it on salt blocks.
Got alot better one for other stuff.
I knock the rust off that thing for four years now.
It just keeps cutting salt.
Oh and that powder there on the cardboard, that's the good stuff.

Well man of my word.
Here is the pic of lockbox.
Of coarse the other side was easy.
Already had a hinge, this side I just tack weld a few chain links on one side for a hinge.

No worries,make fun,I don't care.
Got the ammo box at a garage sale ,5 bucks.
Made two trail cam lock boxes out of it.
Seemed like the price was right.

Also been working on this today.

What I like to call throw away knife.
Pakistan pile of you know what.
But perfect for truck consoles, boat, tackle box, trail cam bag.
Screwdriver, hammer, pry bar, beat the crap out of it type deal.
Definitely not a huge loss if,stolen, broken, rusted,or gets abused.

I've done that AND used the fuse boxes from HD and had success with them as well.

Gonna be selling the locations of these salt blocks and cameras once you get some  120” whitetails showing up?

Probably not,too many people think they own public land on HW.
Just doing my normal right now ,which is helping deer and elk through winter.
I have a few spots ,it can be a spike, handful of does, forky Muley,
Doesn't matter to me in winter time . Just helping them through winter.  You do that for many winters, big bucks just show up over time. Plus in our house it's a tradition,if you harvest a buck, you go back after season and dump a salt block. A whole block like the one on the bottom in the pic. It's our way of giving back,to the deer in the area .
I see a lot of hunters spend big money on lots of things.
But a 10 dollar salt block . Could be the best 10 dollars spent.

My son got a spike in an area ,that spot will get a whole salt block.
I ate tag soup,so I only have one spot that gets a whole block.
At the end of the day ,many hunters benefit from it.

You did good work on those boxes, but what is the wire on the top right for?  Was that just to hang the box to paint or is that part of the box?

Ya that's just where I hung it up to dry.
The one whole block is already out in the woods.
The two cut in half will most likely go to the same area.
So the spot where my son harvested will get two blocks.
Come April or May is when I'll be actually putting cams up.
Then I cut into quarters, that way i can put them in a pack without breaking my back.

Figured I'll update this as well.
May be my last post, but who knows.

Lockbox, all blocks have been out since January 1.
They all have cams at three different locations.
I suspect batteries may have took a beating during the extreme cold spell we had.
Even though it's all the same general area, lock box cam is a new location.
I do have 6 brand new cams for the upcoming season, most likely just get cable locks up high.
Plus all my old cameras as well.
3 muddy cam......3 stealth cams .....will compare picture quality, night quality, trigger speed going into next year.
I currently have about 5 cams that are currently still in the woods.
One hasn't been checked since beginning of October.... batteries dead I'm sure.
Same with another , batteries changed November, haven't been back there.
3 with the salt pictured .

I will check all these after snow is long gone,re up with battery, check camera function.
Winter I tend to not go on camera checks, tracks in the snow and what not.
The 6 new cameras will go to brand new spots for sure.
Still e-scouting that.
