AK brown bear hunt
« on: May 29, 2024, 06:19:42 PM »
My girlfriend and I just got back from a really great trip on the AK peninsula.  She is next of kin in AK and can hunt brown bears without an outfitter.  Her dad is still up there and has a float plane to make the whole thing possible.
We saw bears every time we were out of the tent. They were out in BIG flats, with no cover whatsoever.   We killed this big one by sneaking into 100 yards while he was bedded and waiting for a shot.  After almost 2 hours he rolled to his side and we had a good look at his chest.  She hit him 3x (30-06) in the chest and he never left his bed.

Age estimate was around 20 years.  It will take about a year for the official age to come back.  His teeth are pretty trashed, worn to the gums and busted up badly.  I don't know how much he weighed.  I guess somewhere around 900-1000 lbs.  It was all we could do to get him rolled over for pictures.  :o

Congratulations, that is phenomenal. What a great time indeed. I love it even more that it was taken with a 30-06. My all-time favorite caliber.

Unreal. I saw the pics on FB. Some of the claw pics are crazy!
