Planning on trying one of these out... I have a Leupold 3x9 mounted right now for load development on my Optima 2. Will switch over to the RDS later.

 Has anyone had any experience on the ring height on the Optima?

Idk if anyone cares, but figured I’d update.  Jumped from 150 grains of triple 7 pellets to a 180 grains.  Similar group size but significant flattening on trajectory.  Will be stretching it out further in the next couple of weeks.  About a 4” difference from the 150 grain load at 100 yards.

I have an optima and with the RDS and low mounts it looked perfect. I did not shoot it as I returned the scope. It came used from Sportsmans Warehouse.

 Curious. Not scope nor post related perhaps but is there a danger of increasing grain of powder? Is there a maximum point until there’s too much psi for the breech? I have zero idea which is why I ask.

I returned it as it was open box or demo model. It looked used. And they were sold out at that point so could not replace it.

Every muzzleloader I've bought has a max powder charge listed in the owner's manual.  They're not all the same.

You could probably google up max powder charge for most muzzleloaders.

If you search Reminton 700 UML maximum powder charge, you'll see it's 200 grains.

FYI, that's a bigger powder charge than most muzzleloaders I've seen.   I haven't really kept up, but a lot of the muzzy's 10+ years ago had max charge of 120 or 150 grains.

Yes there is absolutely a danger in increasing powder charge weights. Especially with different powders having different burn rates as well. Each rifle has its manufacturers spec on what it is rated for and that should be followed.  I’m really only familiar with the REM 700 uml which is rated for 200 grains of 777 pellets.  If I was using blackhorn 209 powder I wouldn’t be using 180 grains for example.

 I ordered a titanium rail from Murphy Precision and picked up the RDS for my Bighorn that I picked up on the cheap from Knight during their blowout sale. The rail wasn’t cheap but I’m very happy with the quality, it fits perfectly and is cosmetically appealing as well.

 The RDS is also very nice, but I don’t like the mount that came with it so I just ordered rings. I’ll post up a pic when I get it set up.
