Need some new hunting pants
« on: July 01, 2024, 05:12:10 PM »
Been wearing a set of Core 4 Element pants for a few years now . Wanting a new pair that's similar  to them . Which ones from Kuiu , Sitka or First Lite are the closest ?

Kuiu Attack pants are my choice.  I pair those with First Lite suspenders.

I wear sitka almost exclusively.  I have an original pair of 90% pants that is still going strong.  The Mountain pant and timberline are pretty nice.  My only complaint with Sitka....is they change their styles way to often.  If you find a pair you like....buy two or three pair, next year they may not make them again.  Drives me nuts!!

Hard to beat kuiu, that’s my first choice. For a lighter early season pant and cheaper, outdoor research!

Guess I should have been a little more specific.  I love my current Core 4 element pants and want to replace them with a different brand that is almost identical build wise . Was looking for more of a " what you want is the Sitka Accent or the Kuiu Guide pants or First Lite Foundry pants "..   I hit up the local Cabelas the other day, and they had a few pairs of Sitka.  But they were super thin .
My Core 4 Elements are insulated,  but not so much that they are to hot for Washington Deer / Elk rifle season . And with a base layer are pretty much perfect for Montana in mid November . Just hate ordering online and having to send back things 3 or 4 times .

I live in my Kuiu Axis Hybrid pants from mid Oct to December....
Durable exterior and soft interior.  Only add a layer if it gets into the 20s or colder.

First lite shouldn’t be in the same conversation as kuiu and Sitka. No idea what the pants your trying to match so can’t help there but first lite is junk.

The sitka timberline pants are a heavier built pant with a light insulation in them but they are not too much for mid season in Wa. I have both the mountain and timberline and the mountain pant is much lighter built and I only wear them early season. I also have the kuiu attack pant and they are well built, not insulated but still a tough pant that's easy to layer underneath. Another option is the Skre hardscrabble pant. I bought a pair of these this spring through their discount bin on the website. I have yet to use them for actual hunting but I do like them so far, the seem sturdy and well built, heavier fabric but not insulated. I have a couple Skre tops that have held up for 3 years now so I expect the pants to do well.

Looking quickly at Sitka and Kuiu site . Looks like either the Sitka Mountain pants or Kuiu Encounter pants are similar to my current ones .
Well now after reading Mfowls post maybe the Mountain pants aren't what I want . Off to check out the Timberline and Kuiu Axis hybrid Fishgamereaper recommended.  And now Skre  :bash:

I only bought the Skre because they were half priced at $62.00. You should check out Kuiu attack and Sitka timberline. They are both a great pant.

After trying a few different pants over the years I would suggest the Timberline pant from Sitka.  Probably not a hot weather choice but once October rolls around they are perfect for me.   Very durable and comfortable.  Lots of great choices out there.

Timberline and then a thin set of thermals underneath in cooler temps.  A lot of these performance clothing manufacturers are building gear to be layered, purely for the versatility and ability to customize your clothing day to day.

The old 90% pant is what you are looking for.....but it was really only good for cool to cold weather and would sweat your boys off in temps above 60.

If you run cold and want a pant for that has more insulation, look at the Sitka Stratus pant.

Youtube is also a great site to research these pants as people give reviews while showing the pants features.

My favorite pant is Kuiu attacks. If it’s warm the kutana are the best light pant I’ve ever owned. I have Sitka ascents and first lite. I’d never own another pair of first lite

I have the SKRE Hardscrabble pants for a couple years now and like them we'll. Not insulated but fairly thick and durable. The hip vents dump heat decently if warm. I like them better than my core element pants.
