Not hunting early archery again this year
« on: August 16, 2024, 01:30:47 PM »
I at least bought the license. But the Fed is expected to drop lending rates during their meeting on September 17-18 and I need to be smilin' and dialin' in the days before. Hopefully, I'll find somewhere to day hunt in the late season. It's a bit disappointing but we all gotta do what we gotta do.

Sorry to hear that- darn government will screw it up one way or another.  I hope it works out well for you business and finance wise. Definitely hard to make money in the woods taking your bow for a walk!

I don’t know if I’ll do any big game this year so I feel your pain. Got to do what needs to be done unfortunately. Also hoping to get out for a few hours here and there but not sure. Good luck on your deals!

John,  I'm sorry. I not only feel your pain, I share it. The new job is going to keep me from doing much hunting this year. But we are loving the house, purchased with a Pianoman-arranged mortgage!

I hope you can get out for something,  even a hike.

You'll never see those rates again. But if you're like most Americans these days, with burgeoning credit card debt at 25-35%, a refi to pay them off, even higher rates, can save you a lot of money per month. During Covid, Americans saved 1.2 trillion dollars. That figure is now in negative numbers.

Yep, like many I’m forever held hostage in a house with a 2.5% mortgage…  but worse things could happen.  Could pay it off but its like free money.   If I stumble on a dream home tho I’ll be sing’in for the pianoman !

What are your expectations coming out of the 17th and 18th meeting?
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

I don't have crystal balls. My wife took those from me when we got married. According to many financial industry experts and goals set by the Fed itself on inflation and unemployment stats, we may see a drop in the Fed rate of 1/4-1/2% during/after that meeting.

I'm saddened to read this. I hate to see people unable to do outdoor activities that they love.

Early archery elk is my favorite thing to do presently. Getting out and taking part in the woods is the best thing for my well being. I sincerely hope that you find a way/ place to hunt this fall. Even just shooting my bow daily is theraputic if for no other reason than I am outside when I do it.

I was also disapointed in the changes to the late elk season in the area that I hunt. 3 pt. or better bulls are not all that easy to find after rifle season. I enjoyed being able to try and put a stalk on a cow.

How far away from Vancouver are you willing to venture to hunt the late season?

It depends. I'll be doing mostly day trips. If someone has an elk tied to the tractor in their field, I wouldn't mind a 4 or 5-hour trip. As I get older, my hunting is getting closer to the road.
