Estate sale
« on: January 09, 2025, 07:30:19 PM »
Lost my hunting and fishing buddy a couple of months ago. His wife wants to sell most of his guns. Are there any gun shops that you trust to do a estate sale.     She is not looking to sell individually. Just looking for a place to take the whole lot. Prefer North of Seattle if possible

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can find a solution for selling the guns.

IME, gun shops want them only at fire sale prices.

I might suggest you take control of them and auction them on Gunbroker.

That's the deal I have with my buddy anyways.  He and his kids each get a pick of the litter if they so choose.

I believe Sound Loan in Everett will take them on consignment. I've bought several guns from them, always a good experience.

Second the Sound Loan idea. I don’t know what terms they offer for something like this, but they have been excellent to deal with on other sales.

When I had my FFL I used to sell estates for people. I was cheap as I sold them for as much as I could and I took 10% the 90% went to the owner. Or I would give a honest appraisal of the lot tell them what they would get minus my 10% if I sold them individually and offer a little less than that if they just wanted to be done with them and sell all to me. I would recommend having someone give you an appraisal then look to sell as a group so you know you are not getting ripped off.

Cabela’s used to buy gun lots. Not sure who else does up North these days.
Most will appraise then offer whatever that is minus their normal consignment fee, which is usually 10-25%. You end up with the same money, it just looks like a lowball with the reduced amount.

I had a friend consign a few rifles.  He changed his mind on one of them and had to wait 10 days to get it out of jail.... :chuckle: :chuckle:!!  Basically had to complete the paperwork and have a background check done to get his own rifle back.

Nowwwwww....I may have misunderstood him....though I'm positive this is what he said.  Point being, if this is the case.....if something doesn't sell and / or you change your mind, it could be a hassle to get them back.  I'm sure one of the FFL's can chime in and tell me I'm nuts...or what I heard was correct.  This was just a few weeks ago.

Isn't it great that you have to surrender ownership of "your personal property" to sell it and then go back through the process to reclaim it. Thats if you don't hit a snag.

This is all true. Same as if you were buying any other gun. I verified that before I put one up for sale a couple months ago. And don't forget ANY firearm sale, unless to direct relatives, have to go through an FFL now, by State law.
Ain't it great?!?!
