Took the nephews to check traps and had my 4th coyote this season in a cage. This coyote snuck a beaver out of my cage yesterday and stood in front of of the cell camera for an hour eating it. Went today to replace the bait and he must have snuck back in. The boys were excited to be part of it.

I wonder if it’s something learned from the pack going into other type structures like cages?

I’ve caught seven other coyotes in cages over the last five or six years in other locations as far as 20 miles away. I’ve always known coyotes enter the cages, but usually the door hits them on the back and they are able to back out.

I doubt if it’s a learned trait, it’s pass/fail. A coyote getting caught in a cage there is no pass grade, every coyote in a cage earns a fail grade.
