I don't disagree with the tikka comments, but by the time I had a threaded barrel im up a touch over 1000$, which could be ok. Tikkas are known for having slow barrels though, right? seems like ive seen a few posts on rokslide with people claiming creed velocities out of their PRC.  :dunno:

my question would be what's the goal/end use of this rifle?
i REALLY think people over hyper fixate on velocity.
i wouldn't hesitate to get another tikka as a budget rifle.  thats the insane thing anymore, 650-700 is a 'deal' compared to so many rifles costing north of 1500 very easily for a non custom rig

This is what I'm really heavily leaning towards, or the predator version. Just with the predator wasn't so dang ugly.

I have a predator on 6.5 creedmoor.  The gun shoots sub MOA out of the box.  Not pretty but it shoots.  Only issue I have is that on occasion the little silver dollar sized "plug" at the end of the hand grip on the stock-the one with the ruger logo- will fly off after a couple shots!  Makes me chuckle when that happens.  After snapping it back in a few times I gorilla glued it in place.  Hoping that holds!

a simple chop and thread or just a threading is pretty inexpensive.  Tikka is always my go to but some people don't want to mess around so a ready to roll off the shelf rifle like the ruger is a good option.

$680 stainless tikka, send it to kampfeld for threading, add a $20 vertical grip if you're feeling fancy and you're off and running.

As for barrel speeds, some barrels are fast and some are slow. That's not specific to any one manufacturer either.  The differences we are talking here are inconsequential.  Even a slow barrel is still gonna put your max range for reliable bullet expansion way out past where 99.5% of guys have no business shooting at flesh :twocents:

:yeah: Kampfeld is about 100 bucks to thread a muzzle. If you want it chopped, threaded 5/8" for a suppressor and a shoulder flare added its still only about 150 which is ridiculously cheap. Just had one done and it was back in my hands 6 weeks after I mailed it off.

Yeah I wasn't 100% sure if you wanted a threaded barrel or not. I've always just factored in the price of a chop & thread into the base cost of the Tikka. Factory barrel lengths are too long for my preference shooting suppressed so factory threading isn't really a personal consideration. Straight out the box to the smith!

Agree with Karl's response, the vertical grip is mod is easy, cheap and feels much better except when shooting offhand.

It all depends on what you mean by low cost.  In my mind, that's the cheapest gun that is able to shoot an acceptable group at the distance I want to shoot at what I intend to shoot at.  That could be a $399 Savage Axis or $10,000 custom rifle depending on what your looking at doing.

Gen 2 rugers take the cake for best bang for your buck :twocents:
......I have to argue this one  :chuckle: We have 2 Mossberg Patriots in 6.5 PRC that out of the box with factory 143 ELDX's both shoot .5 moa at 100. One is the fancier option that is cerakoted, fluted threaded barrel, and camo stock. Both were $369 when we bought them. We adjusted the triggers, mounted scopes, cleaned em, and went to the range with the factory ammo. Never weighted em, but they have to be under 9# and both feed excellent. Minimal kick with the pad they have as well. I'm not sure how they haven't gotten more recognition.

A new model tikka might be the way to go. I saw a you tube video from the shot show and he said tikka was making all their models with threaded barrels. That was the only reason I didn’t buy one. I bought a x-bolt SR and it is light weight and a great shooting gun. Not a budget gun but a great gun

Goal of the rifle is for hunting, deer, bear, antelope and elk. Need something that isn't as heavy as my current guns, but don't need a ultralight setup. (I can't shoot super light guns worth a dang)

I chose an X-bolt speed. I wouldn’t probably put it in the cheap that shoot well category because they are a bit more expensive. I would however say I think they are a good gun for their price point. Just a tad heavier than ultralights and very nice to carry and shoot. I’ve been quite happy with accuracy with a variety of ammo (I went with 270 win
