Snake/Columbia Walleye
« on: March 22, 2025, 07:23:15 PM »
Hitting the Snake/Columbia tomorrow morning for wallies. My first time out on my own for them. Any pointers? I will be using worm harnesses. I’ve got a salmon boat I’ll be fishing out of, well equipped. What should I be looking for in terms of depth, speed, etc?

Well went out there and got whooped. Couldn’t get a single bite.i just don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to walleye but I’ll keep at it. Quick report: constant rain, mid 50s, light wind. Saw 3 boats head into the Columbia and 4 move up the snake towards the islands about a mile or so upriver from hood park launch. Saw no fish caught, not even a smallie or perch. It was a rough trip but it beats the hell out of yard work or cleaning the house!

I think when it warms up a little they’ll hit crank baits and rubber grubs casted or trolled. I’d try a perch rapala on that harness. Put a worm on there too and go slow. I’ve mostly caught em in warmer shallow water. I’m no walleye slayer but caught a few and have been skunked too. They taste good.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll get back out there soon hopefully. I’ve read that once you locate the fish to stay on them and switch to jigging? Anyone try that before? Is it successful?

I was completely skunked on the Columbia for both days this weekend and one of them we fished with 4 rods for 6 hours. Seems like still prespawn. Would be good around April 11th.

Not specifically in the Columbia/Snake but I am almost always jig fishing if I am walleye fishing.  I am not much of a troller and always prefer to jig fish them.  I know trolling works, it just isn't for me.
