Teanaway bull elk
« on: June 11, 2025, 07:50:21 PM »
I drew Teanaway bull elk.  It was my third choice.  Happy to finally get drawn, but did I waste 22pts for this area?   I will put the miles on scouting!

I wouldn’t say that hunt is wasting 22 points.

I live in the unit and would be happy to share some information with you! Since I hunt muzzleloader it’s not like I’m giving up my honey hole!
Lots of good bulls in the spots I chase unicorns.

22 points well used if you are willing to put in some work.

We have seen some good ones over the years, haven’t spent much time looking for them outside of the rut. Or in the past couple years I could say.

I sent you a PM a while back, drove over over blewett from Eburg and love that type of terrain.

not the best tag in the state. I’d turn it back in and give someone else a chance that knows what they got.

Most of these draw tags in the state are what you make of them.  Put the effort in, hunt hard and see what happens.  Plenty of big and really big bulls in that unit.  To tag the monsters alot of things have to line up just right though so don't focus on the size as the true measure of success of the hunt is my opinion.

Look at the odds of drawing whatever other tag is better and I would absolutely be hunting the one you drew.

The only way you waste 22 points is if you take them to your grave, which sadly, many will.

Best get in the unit to scout now, Mid Sept, early Oct. As in get used to the unit terrain, roads & access areas.

Once your season rolls around, bulls will have been pressured by archers, muzzleloader hunters. Even more, spooked by October 11>21st rifle deer hunters too.
Teanaway elk KNOW where the private land sanctuaries are.
