Advice for a first time Bear spot and stalk?
« on: July 11, 2025, 05:46:30 PM »
Greetings,

This year is my first time hunting bear and I'll be using a bow on JBLM Fort Lewis. I intend on putting boots and ground until I pack one out. Any advice for a first time archery bear hunt?

V/R,

Bear can't see for crap, can detect movement but that is about it.  I had one walk up to me standing on a trail to within 10 yards max.  just stood there looking at me wondering what I was.  finally caught my wind and took off.  so advice 1.  they can't see well get in close when you can, other than that try to find the berry patches.  Been too long since I was out there, but Lewis Lake and Chambers Lake always looked like good hunting.  That was in the early/mid 80s though.  Bring a rod good fishing there also.
