We went duck hunting last weds with 2 of my friends.

Got out today just me and the boy.

Hit 5 pieces of public land down south of us.

First spot had a truck in it, guessing some sort of late season deer hunter as I didnt see anything that made me think fellow bird hunter.

We moved on to the next spot.

Hunted it and was surprised not to see anything but looking back on it we didnt hunt the best part of the property.  Wish I had been able to pull up my OnX down there.  Will have to save a downloaded map for next time.  Definitely want to go back and check it back out again.  The spot we did hunt looked real nice and I still want to check out the other spot on the property.

2nd piece of property looked really nice and Moose put up 2 hens.

3rd piece of property we didnt see anything. However it looked really nice so we will have to hit it at least 1 more time this year if possible.

4th piece of property we put up the rooster and 2 hens as well as a small covey of quail.

I initially I didnt intend to waste my time going after the quail but Moose kept putting up beautiful singles while we hunted and when I didnt shoot he was looking at me funny afterwards.  Finally one of them presented such a great shot I just couldnt pass up taking it and we got another retrieve for the boy.

5th piece of property I put up 2 more hens.

So all in all I feel we had a good day for public land hunting.  Got into some birds.  Took our first public land rooster for the year and we got some bonus quail.  I feel anytime I hunt public and even see/flush birds its a good trip.

Ill take 'Buck Fever' over 'Swine flu'...

Got out sunday afternoon about 10am and got into a lot of birds.

My partner knocked down 2 roosters on the first slush which unfortunately seemed to be the bulk of the birds on the property.  21 birds flushed.  About half were roosters.

I missed twice as I was so caught off guard.

Hunted the rest of the day and got into a few quail and a couple more roosters but none of the roosters presented shots and I wasnt interested in shooting quail that day.

I did end up taking a hen mallard off the creek which was nice.

Over all Sunday was a good day as we beat the rain back to the truck and we saw quite a few birds.

Got out today with another buddy and we got 1 rooster about 5 minutes in but that was the only rooster we saw all day.  We got into a lot of quail however and we managed 6 of those.

Good day today as well.  Sure love hunting over my dog and I am glad the rain held off.

No pic from sunday as it was raining like cats and dogs and I was soaked so I elected to for go the photo session.

These are the birds from today.

Ill take 'Buck Fever' over 'Swine flu'...
