Going to try my hand at calling.
« on: October 28, 2025, 03:57:08 PM »
I have a spot where a rather large boar frequently passes by my trail camera. I believe he's headed either to a close creek to salmon fish or an apple orchard. He's completely nocturnal currently. I have a stand in the area and am thinking I may be able to sucker him in via a call. Wind is in my favor, normally. Would you guys use rabbit in distress, lost fawn or doe bleats?
And do you guys think this will be effective,  given that he is enroute to a different food source?

Fawn distress man. Doesn’t matter the time of year, they come running.

If he’s in the salmon you don’t want him.🤮

But I do, his hide is absolutely outstanding and I dont think I'll even taste the salmon in pepperoni.

Heck yeah you want him.  Little Pathfinders bear this year smelled like an absolute porta potty, but he made great jerky.  LP is living off that stuff in college right now.  He's got a literal bucket of it in his dorm fridge  :chuckle:
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Unfortunately I ended up this season with a nasty cold. So, hopefully he shows up next year as i will attempt then. Now that deer season is over I'm going to try calling cougars.

@bearmanric

Bearman Ric knows calling bears like few others and he makes great calls, as well. :tup:

Awesome thanks for the info. I'll have to reach out to him and pick his brain. I'm very interested in the premise off calling for bears and big kitty's.
