Xlr element vs mdt hnt26
« on: November 01, 2025, 10:04:12 PM »
Building a new rifle and am curious if anyone has experience with these chassis.

Will be on an aero short action and a 22” barrel in 6.5 prc unless someone can talk me into 7 saum.

Thanks!

Going thru the same. Going to do a 6.5 PRC also. I have no hands on experience, and I don’t think u can go wrong with either. I’m basing my decision off of this exo mtn article, and color options  :chuckle: so XLR will be my choice.

I built a 6.5 prc on a savage action and put it in the XRS chassis.  I absolutely love the chassis.  I’m building another 6.5 prc and it will go in the hnt26 chassis. If they made the carbon rifle for savage, I would give that a go too.  The hnt26 is gonna shave a couple pounds off the weight which will be awesome.

I have handled the mdt but haven’t shot it. It feels great but I also read that article/watched his video which is what led me to considering the xlr for a hunting rifle. Also it’s cheaper haha

My vote is for the xlr have both aluminum and magnesium version. Get the magnesium element 4.0  if your hunting with it and be done. Here’s my 22in 300prc. 10.2 pounds the way it sits in the picture, with a loaded 3 round mag. Jaoutdoors usually has some in stock if you’re not picky about color and don’t want to wait for xlrs direct lead time 👍

I also have been wanting to change the stock on my Mesa 7mm. My barrel is stainless so I need to pick a good color stock for that. That XLR looks good.

I’m not very savvy on the install is it easy?

I also chose the Xlr mag 4.0 LA for a recent 7prc build. I bought both stocks mentioned above but ended up choosing the Xlr due to ergonomics for my hands. My BIL though prefers the MDT as he has larger hands.

Super easy install. Remove the barreled action, drop into the chassis and retorque the action screws and re zero.

Just ordered the hnt26 chassis.  I will get it mounted up when it gets here and give a review.  I think I'm gonna like it.

Skip the 6.5 prc and look at the 6.5 SS!  :twocents:

Just dropped my semi custom savage in the hnt26 chassis and it is darn sexy.    Unloaded with magazine and scope, it weighs exactly 9lbs.
