Oregon antelope

I'm considering applying for an Oregon antelope license in the next couple years. I don't have enough points to get a license in the top units like Hart Mountain and never will. From what I've been able to research I would have good to very good odds of drawing in the following units. If anyone has any thoughts on these I'd appreciate hearing them.

Thanks. Trying to research an out of state antelope unit is pretty interesting. There isn't nearly as much information as there is for deer and elk. One hunter will say he saw antelope every day in a unit while another hunter in the same unit would say he hunted seven days and never saw an animal.

There is a lot in that unit. Not great if you're looking for a trophy though. A BIG one there will be 14ish

I have been down there a time or two. The wife and I hunted our points out in 2012. I have a buddy who has been down a few more times, family and friends' points, we have been in the Malheur unit. Killed some good bucks and had a good time. It's not on your list but should be. As usual a unit has pockets and sometimes finding those spots is a challenge.
Do not overlook this unit. Some of the BLM around ranch boundaries is ripe with good bucks....On X is your friend.

Saw some dandy antelope each time.

I don't know how many points you have, but as a resident it you don't get lucky and draw in the 25% pool. It's at least a minium of 12 -14 years of points. You would be luckier to draw a bow tag for Malheur sooner.

Thank you for the information. I have 17 points; for Malheur River the earlier hunt takes 22 points and the second hunt takes 23 according to Oregontags.

I've been able to eliminate some of the units I initially listed. Nearly all the best units in the state are in the southeast and take a minimum of 22 points with some taking 30 or more so I'm looking at the second or third tier of units. If I knew 17 years ago what I know now I wouldn't apply as a non-resident for antelope.

Silvies is still one of the units I'm considering. I've heard some good and some not so good thoughts on it.

I appreciate everyone's comments. They've been quite helpful.

Some of the muzzleloader tags are pretty productive and much easier to draw, if that's something you might consider.

We hunted the Silvies a few times and seems that when we were over in the NE corner we saw some great bucks, basically from HWY 395 west to the Silvies river canyon and south of the canyon at the big turn by Rimrock sprng, then east toward FSR 31. Some of the BLM to the south had lopes too....dated info but.....who knows

Was hunting deer up in some pretty high country in the trees came across a sage flat and there were a dozen Antelope 600 yards out with a very large buck in the bunch.

Thanks for the information. I've read several sources that say antelope can be found in timbered areas in Silvies.
