I've looked through a pair of a friends, and they are a great binocular.  At the time I looked through them, they were Steiners high end 10x42.

I have the Steiner Big horn 9 x 40's.  prior line to the predator.  The predator added coated lens and I think they are a touch lighter.

I thought they were the best binocular you could buy for under $500.  Until 2009.  In the spring i bought a pair of Zen-Ray ED 10 x 43's, and I have Swarovski EL fans that are very impressed.  I still have my Steiner's, but I loaned them to a buddy for the season.  Check out the Zen-Ray if you have time.

I agree with the feelings on the Wind River stuff.  I'm the first guy in line to back Leupold but when they started putting the "Wind River" name on the stuff they were getting from China it angered me.  I'd rather pay more $$$ and buy american.  Which are generally better made anyways.

No binoculars are made in the USA anymore.  Have not been for quite some time.  Anything much less than $500 is very likely to have at least some Chinese component.

We sort of need to ask the OP which Predator he means.  There are really three.  There is the IF porro prism models, there is the original roof predator which has a heavy violet to purple tint, and there is the new Predator which has a different color tint.  They are all different animals.
