Would like a mulie in the freezer
« on: August 03, 2010, 07:33:30 AM »
Hello All,
I'm a west-sider and usually hunt NE MT for deer and elk.  We didn't get drawn this year and I'm looking to bag another mulie this year.
Since I'm from the wet-side, I have absolutely no idea where to start on the dry side.  I can't afford to pay to hunt on anyones land so it'd have to be public.  I'm not looking to jump into anyones honey-hole, I'm looking for a good area that can produce A buck...doesn't have to be a monster, just has to fit nicely in my freezer.
I don't have much time to scout, unfortunately...vacation is getting burned on a family reunion, bear and elk this year.
Any information you'd be willing to provide would be greatly appreciated.

Grab a bow, late archery is 3pt or anterless. look at the regs closely and you will see the notation about when and where. a doe with a bow for meat is a good thing.

Yeah, "grab a bow".... :chuckle:  easier said than done, my friend.  I just sold my Hoyt because I didn't have time to get it and myself tuned in.  Too much happening, you know the drill, kids, mini-farm, animals, work...yay.
That would be ideal if I had the time to find a bow (again), practice sticking a target, get vacation in September...the list goes on.
Thanks for the input, but I gotta stick with the 300RUM for another year.

Head up to the Winthrop area.  Lots of people up there but there are lots of mulies too.  To get away from the crowd, go south down around twisp.

I heard there wasn't any animals around the twisp wintrop area. I would suggest heading over to swakane. I've heard they have a bunch in there. Or Omak area.  :chuckle:
It's not the size of the trophy that make's it a trophy.

You may just be one person in this world. But you may be the world to just one person.

With little time to scout for mulies, it may be beneficial to stay on the wetside and hunt blacktail. Just have to fight more brush. Depending on the area, you can find large BT or "benchlegs" on the wetside.
