Here's a good video to show that small frame people can carry can carry large frame guns. Without having to buy larger clothes.
It's all in the holster choice.

With myself, a heavy set guy, I find that it is hard to carry concealed with most any holster, as your wider waistline causes your weapon to protrude, no draping effect of an overshirt... I have had to rely on a pocket gun...

Ice, I am a biger guy too and I carry a 1911 in an iwb from boondockleather.com It conceals it very well under a light t shirt and is very comfortable. I had a lot of trouble with owb holster, I cant conceal a paddle holster at all. Good leather helps a lot.

Holster choice makes a huge difference, and it's usually worth it to spend a bit more and get a quality unit from a well known manufacturer.
I carry a 1911 a fair amount, but when the weather is warm and I'm wearing shorts and t-shirts my favorite carry gun in a Kahr PM9. The PM9 is probably my favorite daily carry gun. I especially like it in my Desantis OWB high riding holster.

I looked at Boondocks LEather, and that stuff is nice. It's going on my Christmas list, for sure.

I use a fanny pack for my .45 XD and a Minuteman OWB for my Glock 23. Works great. I'm a plus size ( I love that ) fella myself.

Ice,
I am a big guy too. I carry my 1911 Colt in the small of my back, in a Galco paddle style. In winter it is easy, in summer, I just wear a long tailed shirt untucked.

Great video. I sent it to my daughter, since she has a similar build. I hope it will inspire her to carry more often.

I'll let you guy's get the laughter out the way first. Here it is. 50% of the time I just put my little Baretta Bobcat (22 LR) loaded with "Stinger" hollow points in my front pants pocket. I'm a big guy, 6'2" 270lb.
The other 50% of the time I carry my Ruger P90 in a Galco shoulder holster.
I figure that once you start putting "holes" in someone, then they are going to stop doing whatever they were doing for you to have to resort to shooting them.
I do like my Galco holster though. It's very comfortable.

I thought about doing the same thing with a 22 Kent Hunter, check out these
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=842476
I couldn't believe the difference with those rounds both in recoil and sound. I never got a pocket sized 22 so I mostly carry my J frame in my pants pocket these days.

I like the idea of shooting something small to just break off the attack, but can't convince myself to do it. I try to carry a large enough caliber/energy handgun to kill the 'bad guy' even with quick sloppy shots. An ex-cop I used to know told me that police were being told that it was better to kill attackers than to wound them, especially if the wound leaves them disabled. He said that is why they started going to double-taps for their training. The departments were being sued and losing/settling almost every time for damages and bills related to the wounded criminals, whereas the wrongful death suits were usually dismissed or would only cost a fraction of the other suits.
