You have to embrace the mob mentality on here!! Let's get a rope and hang em!!

I was always told there are 2 sides to any story and so far we have only heard one side. I think most folks attitude are reflective of the attitude presented to them! That also includes law enforcement. Maybe some of you who are in law could share or have some input on that.

If you are waiting to hear the second side of the story...you may be waiting a while....  I choose to believe mule hunter. His story sounds good to me, he has a great reputation here, plus pics to back up his claims.

I agree that there probably is another perspective on the story, I just bet that it is this BS uberleftwing ecosavior mentatlity that has invaded our dept of wildlife. And to make it worse, we are paying for it.

Agree with Iceman.
Probably the closest thing you are going to get to "the other side of the story" is this:

WE are biologists
WE work for the Government
That makes US more inmportant than YOU
We are doing our job
Leave us the hell alone, and don't ask any questions

We're from the Government, and we're here to "help"...

I'm sure there are two sides to the story.  The other.......    We found a kitty that you have a permit for, and eventhough we don't have the equipment to pursue, there are more of us than you so you are out of luck.  Try to be within your rights and we will cite you for interfereing with government work.  (now there is an oxymoron).

What really puts this in perspective is 5 vehicles being there the following day.  To me this opens up a whole new can of worms and questions that demand answers?

  • Why were the original bios not able to make the collar the day before?
  • Why does it take 5 of them to make the collar the next day?
  • Why were they there when it is clearly stated that they are not to do this during the hound season?
  • Why were they there en force, when the local game warden told them to wait?

It seems pretty clear they were flexing their muscles.  They have no right to run off Scott.  I wish this would have happened to an attorney or judge.  They would have had their asses handed to them for violating rights and overstepping their authority.  Scott if an encounter like this happens again turn your dogs loose.  My brother-in-law, an attorney in Tonasket, has volunteered to represent you for free.  You may have to take him out hunting a couple times though.  I sincerely hope that our little phone campaign gets those guys into a director's office for an ass-chewing.

I am with Mulehunter all the way on this one. He is telling it straight as he sees it with pictures to prove it. Why would you want to hear another side to that. He put in drew a tag and needs to be able to use it without any interference from biologists. And he is paying for his own Gas. Lettem loose mulehunter.

At the very least, if Mulehunter is not able to harvest a cat with this permit, his points should be restored. That's the very least that should happen, but really the DFW owes him for his fuel and his time off work for his hunting trip that was wasted due to their stupidity and arrogance. These hound hunters are doing the WDFW a FAVOR, by killing cougars and helping to keep deer numbers up. These biologists should be going out of their way to HELP hound hunters in killing these cats instead of hindering. They owe him a large sum of money and to help offset the cost, the top ranking biologist that was there that day should be fired.

This does not surprise me though, after I was treated like a criminal in Capitol Forest by biologists working on a bear study last spring (on a Saturday.)  I was interrogated and harassed by two DFW biologists all because I had the misfortune of my vehicle breaking down and blocking a road that happened to lead to one of their bear traps. I pushed it down the road to a wide spot and out of the way so they could get by, but they came back a little later and questioned me as to what I was doing out there and why I had a plastic dog crate in the back of my Bronco. They did the questioning by getting in my face and shouting at me.   >:(  I never did figure out why they had such a problem with me having an EMPTY dog crate in my vehicle. ???

I had always thought of the WDFW as a "friend" to hunters, and I always supported them as much as possible. But not anymore.

Nope, no hanging needed, but an apology would be a good start.

Holy Balls!!! I wish you would have had some guys with you Mule.. Dam. I have been on a lot of hound hunts...and the guys I hunted with (Doug would probably attest) would have probably ended up knocking the *censored* out of those guys... of course, those guys would have never flexed like they did if you would have had company... So sorry for your missed opportunity...

I am a biologist and I would NEVER dream of interfering with any hunters opportunities.... There will be more chances to collar other critters down the road! I'll guarantee...if I was the bio there, i would have encouraged you to tree the cat and would have asked if we could help you drag him out and maybe get some measurements and a tooth!!!

I drew the tag in 1989.... that was a great hunt!! (White River)

I'll send a note into the state reps.  They are looking for more programs to cut.

An organization I work with has a collaring project, but it does not take place during the general season for both ethical and safety reasons.  The darting agent can be hazardous if the meat is consumed.

Nobody is above the law and I believe this applies:

RCW 77.15.210
Obstructing the taking of fish, shellfish, or wildlife — Penalty.
(1) A person is guilty of obstructing the taking of fish[, shellfish,] or wildlife if the person:
(a) Harasses, drives, or disturbs fish, shellfish, or wildlife with the intent of disrupting lawful pursuit or taking thereof; or
(b) Harasses, intimidates, or interferes with an individual engaged in the lawful taking of fish, shellfish, or wildlife or lawful predator control with the intent of disrupting lawful pursuit or taking thereof.
(2) Obstructing the taking of fish, shellfish, or wildlife is a gross misdemeanor.

Specifically asked:

Would you please discuss the matter with the Department of Fish and Wildlife?  Ideally, they can reduce the excess budget they are using to collar animals during the general season, jeopardizing the value of one of their most critical revenue streams.

Not sure this law could have been any more clearly broken than in this case.   So if these WDFW employees are cited and are working for WDFW, does WDFW pay the fine to themselves.  Out of left pocket into right pocket?
