Havn't had one fora while and it is time. I have been doing my research. And i want a .40.But what i can't decide is wich to get the H & K USP40 or the SigPro 40.

Also like the looks of the 1911 in .45 ACP. I am a big guy with big hands.

Of the three you listed i would look at the 1911 that fits in your price range. If you have not looked at the xdm, they are a very good handgun. They make both the 40and45. Just somthing for you to look at, if you have not already.

If you're stuck on 40... I think you need to add one gun to your list.

I'm a complete 1911 fan, yet I would not advise one in 40. 45? Yes.. But if you're going 9 or 40, take advantage of the double stack capacity.

I think you should really look at the Springfield XD.  I don't own one. But everyone that I know that does, really likes theirs.

Take a look at the FNH FNX-40 too.  I got the FNX-9 a while back.  Great gun.  I've got an XD-40 sub compact that I like too, butI like the FN better.  It's made in the USA, too, if that's a consideration.  There's a .45 version too, but a bit bulkier, but if you have big paws you might like it.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

Price... Under 1000.Less if possible. I was going for the 40 because during the ammo crisis the 40 was readilyavailable where 9 and 45 was harder to find. Recoil is not much of an issue.

I like the 1911 in .45. So in the 1911 wich is the better model, there are so many.
I am not a big fan of the 9mm.
Had to go from the 45 in the navy to the 9 and i prefered the 45.

$500-$600 price range Springfield XD or new Glocks. Have shot/owned  both and very good pistols for the money.

$700-$1000 range going to get a better pistol. You mentioned the HK USP and Sig Pro. Have shot both of those too and own them too. Am partial to Sig because have carried at work for almost 20 years and have shot over 20,000 rounds with no issues. Again HK and SIg are very good and proven pistols and a little better than the Springfield and Glock but will pay a little.

And there are the 1911's...

Go to a gun store/range and try shooting different pistols and see what you like

1911?  45acp?

I love my Kimber Stainless II!

Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a Series 70 Colt 1911 in 45acp!

Have a look at a Sig P226, P228, P229 and P239. All are available in .40 and they are all-metal Sigs, the best and most reliable guns there are :) How is that?  :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot: :stirthepot:

Seriously they really are the best.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

My vote is for the 1911 in .45 but I am a HUGE fan of the 1911. I tend to compare all of the pistols I buy to my 1911's and I always like those better even if I purchace another model. H&k and Sig both are excellent firearms with good reputations so I would rent or find someone who has those and try them out. My hands are on the smaller size and when I went looking to buy a CC sidearm I was dead set on a Sig because they have great reputations and are reliable and also they are awesome looking too. When I went and rented one and handled multiple models I was very disappointed because they didn't fit my hands how I like. I was really looking forward to getting a Sig but was glad I was able to try one out first. I like the 1911's because of the single stack mags and recoil seems much more manageable than other .45's I have used. Even the 3 inch recoil doesn't feel too bad.  You can find Kimbers for a reasonable price if you search around. I got my Kimber Custom II in stainless fixed sights for $640.00 new. I wanted a blued one but at that price I couldn't pass it up.

I own 3 Glocks in 40 S&W; the 22, 23 and 27. All have been very reliable and accurate out of the box, with no mods required other than replacing the silly stock sights. In 45, I have a full size Glock 21. Shooters tend to like or dislike the Glock based on how it fits their hand or looks. Its simple design makes for easy cleaning and maintenance.

Another good firearm in 40 is the H&K USP Compact or the P2000. The P2000 comes with different back straps so you can change the size of the grip to fit your hand. The LEM trigger in the USP Compact and P2000 is awesome, if you don't mind not having an external safety.

There are lots of excellent 1911s out there and the quality is usually closely related to price. Try to shoot a few different makes and models before you decide.
There are three reasons to own a gun: To protect yourself and your family, to hunt dangerous and delicious animals and to keep the King of England out of your face.
