Shed Hunters
« on: December 26, 2010, 04:17:52 PM »
Today I saw 1 or 2 men looking for sheds.  They had the deer spooked and running all over the hillside.  I ask you all to please wait, and let the deer get through the winter, before we start looking for sheds.  The deer are going to have a hard time already.  They do not need us to add more stress to this already stressful time of year.     I know that one big buck has already shed his antlers on this hillside,  I have been watching him for over a month.  I have been working where I can see the deer all day long,  and I have seen domestic dogs and coyotes chase the deer, and feel that they do not need us to bother them on top of that.  The antlers are not going anywhere, let's give the deer a break and wait a couple of months, please

That is a shame, what some people do.

Is this public or private land?

But I cant wait to hit the hills :)  I will be out there for 3 months strait 3-4 days a week pickin up the bone.

If you're seeing dogs chasing deer, turn them in!

It is too bad people can't think of the animals welfare over their personal gain....   :(

This is by Wenatchee.  It is mostly private land, but does it matter.  They are mule deer sheds.  Yes, I thought it was early.  I think that he is weak from rutting very hard, which is another reason to leave them alone.

Its a hard deal, but I know the hills around wen. get hammered every day. Expecially the HLR area once a buck drops its a race to get up there. I used to wacth those bucks everyday and I new what day they dropped and I was there to pick them up! Not anymore I just wait until the end of Jan or so and take a few small walks. I enjoy getting out in the mt.s and I dont shed hunt around the valley no more.  The best time is late feb or early march when the snow is gone and all the vegetation is still flattened by the weight of the extinct snow, it makes it fun.

 :dunno:

I thnk Muley210 has an issue with when they are "looking" for them not that they are picking sheds up.  All sportsman should be more interested in the well-being of the animals, not their personal gain.

Well said, Lokidog. Unfortunately it seems that these days greed is taking over for some.
:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

If shed hunting is to continue there really should be a set season say like two weeks out of the year in April and NOT during their vulnerable stage. Hey the game dept. could even sell licenses for shed hunting JK

Why don't you go talk to them and tell them how you feel?
