What do you meam by shingle?
That has to get you excited to walk up and find the trap filled.

Here is a picture with a shingle on the pan and the trap is exposed. It is a cubby. The cat was caught in a walk through set with the same set up as the cubby picture.

you really fence your sets close in and with heavy material, reason for that? I have always used smaller pencil size material and put the about 6" farther back and more a cirlcle. all preference I guess. One positive I can see about being so close and using larger sticks is it would keep bunnies out.

Do you always use 4's??? I do on lynx but when I trapped bobcat I used #3 Northwoods coils. I'm assuming a gap.

Great cat, beautiful fur.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

The double longsprings won't freeze down like the levers on coilsprings. I like the #4s for the bigger jaw spread. As for the fencing I really block them so the only place to step is on the shingle and the bigger sticks makes it for sure they won't step over the whole trap.

Totally understand, I sent to the double longsprings in AK for the same reason, I use heavy fencing like that for lynx but thats to keep the bunnies out. Have a great season, I may try that with the shingle.

The shingle works really good. I cut the shingle the size I won't and then cut a piece of black nylon sreen the same size as the shingle and staple the sreen on the bottom side of the shingle. Works really well.
