Just to get in the mood for next week, here is the last of my deer meat from the previous season.  Backstraps on the cast iron.  Marinated in a little olive oil, with salt/pepper, thyme, and rosemary.  Get the skillet nice and hot, couple minutes on each side.  Now I'm ready for the season!!!!  :IBCOOL:

In Oregon, our elk season was only 5 days.  Of my 4 person group that hunted together for years, we would all be responsible for one dinner each.  We would head to town one night (for a real shower & burgers afterwards).  Breakfast was always Frosted Mini Wheats (we call them presto logs).  Not quite sure when that started, but it was customary for years.  Lunch was whatever you could stuff into your pack, usually kippered snacks and mini Milky Ways for me.  Another rule we had was to all bring about 5 frying pans each, so we didn't need to do any dish washing.  We would just pile them up and then clean them when we got home.  A huge Costco box of plastic silverware, some paper bowls, and plastic cups, and we were set.  We didn't out much effort into cooking, it was usually easy, hot and there was lots of it.  I envy those of you who take the time to really cook.  Looks like it would be a really enjoyable part of the experience.
Nothing witty here.... move along.
