What part of the state do you live in?  This will be my wife's first second year deer hunting and she got a nice 4pt whitetail last year. She is loves it know, she never could understand why I was so addicted until she got into it. Wish I had her pic on this computer with it. She used my truck, there was 5" of fresh snow, her and her hunting partner wanted to go by themselves. They shot the buck 20 min. before dark, took 10 minutes to drag back to the truck, and an hour to lift it into the back (2500 dodge diesel, 35" tires) :chuckle:. Anyway the reason that I say this is you will like it, you have good memories of it from the past and they will only get better. If you are on the eastside of the state contact me and I could help you get started in terms of location. I would recommend a 243 for a rifle. Great for deer, if you want a more diverse gun get a necked up 243, otherwords a 308. That would be good for elk, deer and bear, just a little more kick... Good luck :hello:

I live in near vancouver wa.  I'm not sure if there are any deer or elk around here, but I have heard there are some nice duck and goose hunting near the lake.  Thanks for the help on the gun I will keep it in mind when I go shopping hehehe :D But does any one here know of a good place to go deer and or elk hunting in the west side of the state? If there are not then I might be willing to go to the east side to shoot me one.  Oh an another thing is it better if I bought a tree stand to hunt on?

The Coweeman unit not far from you has some good deer hunting, so do most of the units just north of you, Lincoln, Ryderwood, Willapa, etc. Lot's of elk in that area too.

Welcome Sarah!  The best thing to do honestly is to ask questions but ready a LOT on this site.  Most important piece of equipment you'll own is your binoculars (if you hunt on the East side) as well as a good shooting rifle.  Most deer hunting on the west side can probably be done with a lever action 30-30 but if you plan on hunting this side to, then I'd look at either a 270 or a 30-06 (just my opinion).  Welcome!

Dont know about the west side for hunting, but most of you guys come to the eastside anyway for deer and elk :chuckle:
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Sarah, you need to decide which species of deer you are looking to hunt. As a general rule of thumb the westside will be blacktail, mule deer from the cascades east and whitetail from central Washington to the east. Elk there are a lot of things to decide too.

Sometimes girls have better luck than guys when it comes to hunting.  My wife hunts and I taught her how to shoot.  She is an old pro...now she want to take girlfriends hunting...and not me....what happened?  I'm going shopping! LOL  Good luck sarah.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!
