Close encounters of the bear kind. (video) Update 7/3
« on: June 27, 2012, 08:51:20 PM »
Went and checked my game cam this evening after work. There were some vids on the cam, but something happened with the viewer when I tried to download, and they got erased.
Ah well, I'll get more.
My cam is 1.4 miles in from where I park my truck according to my gps.
I was heading back to the truck, and was about 1/4 mile away from it when I jumped multiple bear in the trail ahead of me. I didn't see them when they spooked, just heard the crashing going left and right of the trail. The one that went right started gnashing it's teeth and bawling at me. The one or ones on the left crashed for a few seconds then got quiet, so I am guessing momma and cubs.
The one on the right kept to my right and ahead of me on the trail. It was trying to cross the trail to get back to what I assume was her cubs. She tried crossing about 20 yds ahead of me, caught my movement as I was moving up the trail, and booked back to the right. I got a good look at her as she stopped about 40 yds in and sat looking back. She wasn't happy that I was there, that's for sure.
Most definitely gets the blood pumping.

That was cool- how long did it keep pace with you? You must have had plenty of energy the rest of the way back to the truck.
This closet is taken- go find your own

When I quit filming, I was only a few hundred yds from the truck.  ;)

Headed out again to check my cam and had some fresh tracks in the main trail. Looks to be a pretty large bear.

Those are some cool video's. I've never had an experience with a bear that close. I think it would be a major rush. I'm not sure how I would handle it. I think I'd be pretty cool about it, but you never know.

I have had MANY close encounters like that with bear over the years. But never with a camera on me, or it was an old 35mm film type stuffed in my pack for after the kill.  ;)

I never feel "fear", just a dump of adrenalin when you get in near them.

I figure, the way I hunt/scout for them, one of these days they will get the best of me. My remains will be found with an empty weapon and shell casings laying around.  ;)
