All lead bullets for Idaho
« on: July 27, 2012, 02:17:18 PM »
My dad drew an Idaho muzzleloader tag, and there you can't use copper or sabots. Does anyone have an ALL LEAD bullet recommendation? He shoots a 50 cal White that shoots well with Knight saboted lead bullets and the Hornady SST bullets. Thanks.

.503-460 grain No Excuse bullets.  Call Dave and get some.  They are slip fit, no need for a short starter...

Make sure you tell him you are shooting a White and which one you are shooting.

So I assume you have used these bullets with great success, being as you recommend them?

I have used them, but in all honesty I have used Bull Shop Conicals more.  Both bullets are made from the same mold.  The real differences are in the lubes used.

They are very accurate and they work very well on elk or deer.

This doe was shot with a .503-460... a way over match for a deer but it was what I had available.

This buck also met a .503-460

We can use Power Belts in Idaho also but it really is not a bullet that I would recommend to anyone.  It is accurate that is a positive but you really need to reduce the powder load to keep it from coming apart insde the animal.

I have shot Powerbelts, as has my dad and brother, and they aren't worth 99 cents in my opinion out of any of our guns. Some people like them...but we have all heard horror stories of lost game with them. I will say that they load easy...but that's about it. We could only get them into about 6" groups at 100 yards, which by my standards isn't accurate.

I'll check out those Bull Shop bullets too. I really appreciate it.

Bull Shops are still available, but Dan has stopped using the internet to protect his kids,  you have to order them by regualr snail mail...

But, Dave - you can just call him.  The only thing I worry about is the size of your bore.  Which White will you be using?  One of my Whites is a .504 U-Mag and it need a .5045 bullet.  The other White, which is also a .504 different model has a tighter bore.

I prefer NoExcuse bullets. I feel they perform better in the animal than Bullshop's. Daves lead is slightly softer. I have never had an animal move when hit with Daves, I have had to use a follow up with Bullshops,
Smoke em when ya see em!
