Early Season Manastash Elk
« on: July 31, 2012, 12:36:45 PM »
Ok, so I have a couple of buddies that I hunt with that do not put in the time like I do to get ready for elk season. We have changed our plans several times and I am pissed off right now because of their indecisiveness on what we should do!! I want to go to an area that I am familiar with and or want to get to know better, Manastash and not Taneum and Naches!! I went last year on a scouting trip with the family but never made it back to hunt, because of being swayed by others!! I have decided that I will go with them or with out them this year and hunt where I want to and learn the area myself! If they come along I don't know, but I am tiered of putting in all the work it pisses me off!!!! Thanks done venting.
Any ways, any new updates from anyone that's been up in the area besides reading the updates online?? I read some other posts about the roads and what's online about closures, but I just wanted to see if any one has put a set of eyes on it recently? I know the area a little bit and how to get to Tamarac Springs and Buck Meadows, but I was wondering is there any other areas that I should like at while I'm up there? I am planning on going up next week to scout around to locate some cows for the early season. Can any one give any insight on where else to look, I really appreciate any info! I did have back surgery over a month ago and I have been working really hard to put my self in a position to make it happen this year by myself, but might have to give in to taking a buddy over to help with the pack out! If any of you are planning on being over there for the early season I would like to meet some other members on here and I could introduce myself!  Thanks for any advice and info!

Don't know much about access at the moment..... If your buddy's are that indecisive and lazy I'd go alone or with a better friend....  :twocents:

I was up there driving around last night after work and seen maybe 15 cows/calves running around and 2 small bulls. I can't help you out on particular rds, but I was south west of buck meadows i think  :dunno:

Small world I also had back surgery for L4 and L5 on 6/14

Heres the tip of the day the  main road going in suck real bad with washboards first 4 miles before before gnat flat
 I went up and looked
3120 definetely blocked, which sucks, 1 dump truck fill of gravel would fix it, the road going down from Tamarack to Joe Watt was closed also and Peough point into Cle elum is also closed.
heads up

Yeah L4/L5 on 7/20! Still dealing with a lot of nerve issues!

Looks like I'll have to hunt a little lower for the cows, not much of a big deal for those girls. Maybe additional hunters, unless they do get the roads fixed by the end of August! I might just wait to go down and scout for a while longer??

Buck measows is always a good place to star early season. You will find more people up there but i also find the most elk in that area early. Its always a good idea to set up a trail camera on a well traveled game trail. If you see enough animals using that trail a tree stand would be a good method. I also see a decent amount of amimals up on the flats but it is a little toughter to hunt archery in that area.
