Lake Tapps
« on: August 08, 2012, 03:19:12 PM »
I took the last couple days off due to the in-laws coming to visit.  Decided to go fishing yesterday and wanted to try a new lake.  So we went to Lake Tapps for some small mouth bass fishing.  Got out on the lake about 9 am.  Overcast water temp around 72 same as air temp.  First couple hours nothing but I haven't been on the lake so we had to figure out their pattern.  Father-in-law was using top water and a nice smallie smacked in good.  Got it up to the edge of the boat about to net it and up she jumped.  She went one way and the plug went the other.  Swear she flipped me the fin.   :chuckle:  So father in law swithed to plastic and bumping the bottom.  Got a few hit.  Decided to go out a little deeper.  I was throwing crank baits no luck but I had some musky followers.  Very exciting to see a big fish like that following your shad rap.  Had a musky rod set up but no luck there.  The first musky was about 24" but I saw one break from a weed bed that had to be 36-40" but he didn't follow.  I finally switched to plastic and then the bite was on once we went to deeper water.  Dozen fish total nothing big and we kept 5.  They were good pan fryers.  Lake Tapps is on my  list.
