Weyerhaeuser Map Clarification
« on: August 20, 2012, 01:14:32 PM »
I've been scouting in the Coweeman unit and the road system is maze.  I want to buy the most detailed map of this area that shows these road systems, in and around my scouted area.

I've looked at older posts and see reference to the coweeman tree farm weyerhauser map.  Bob's in longview only carries the St Helen's tree farm map and the guy I talked to had never heard of this specific tree farm map.  Is there one, and how can I get my hands on one?  Thanks, any info will help!

The St Helens Tree Farm Map is the one you want.

Go to Arnolds Maps in Vancouver... he has the best maps of game units, especially the Weyerhauser maps...  I used his maps for years when hunting on Weyco land..
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

You really need a GPS when you're up in that area (with a map on it). It helps a ton. The Weyerhaeuser maps are too small scale and hard to read, and nearly impossible to keep track of where you are, unless you never take your eyes off the map while driving.

They also sell the wey.co St.Helens tree farm maps at drew's store in Toutle. That way you don't really have to make a special trip to get a map!

This might be the style of map being referred to, they are by GMU, so there would be a Coweenman GMU specific map.  Got this one because I will be in that area next month and was thinking about a day in the hills chasing a bear.  They do show alot of information, but I don't know how well I like them yet.

One thing I do not like is they are not very weather resistant apparently,  hince the warning sticker.  Just seems odd that a sportsman's map isn't better designed for all weather use.  But, that is why they make 1 gallon ziplock bags!!

But the Weyco map is a good choice for that area, but like bobcat says, they can be hard to keep track of your location on at times without a little searching.

That LC Sports Map looks just like the DNR Public Land maps. Must be the same map, just with the GMU boundary overlaid on top if it.

I was told by the owner of Arnolds that weyerhauser maps are to be updated soon. Don't know when exactly but hope it's before bow season

Those LC Sportsmaps are absolute junk imo.  I carry the DNR & Weyerhaeuser maps & cross reference them & then have a gps also. The DNR maps are the best for showing the roads & the Weyerhaeuser maps shows where the gates are. Then I mark them for anything else I see. No map is perfect but those 2 will only run you about $20.

If you don't mind spending the money I have found the USGS maps to have some of the most detail when it comes to logging roads.

If you go to the USDA site, you can download USGS maps that have been updated w/NF road systems and numbers.  Not sure if tree farm roads are up to date on them.
