Bear Hunting This Weekend
« on: August 15, 2012, 12:13:15 PM »
So I am taking off this friday through monday to do some yogi hunting.  I know it is going to be blazing hot but this might be the only chance I have all season to get out and chase em.  So I am not going to let it go to waste.  The nearest place to where I will be hunting is Wenatchee.  So my question is does anybody know of a good butcher there or a cooler where I can take it.  And also what kinda of stuff do you guys get your bear butchered into (jerky, sausage, burger, steak, etc...)  I have never gotten a bear before and I am not saying I am going to get one this weekend but just incase I do I want to be prepared.  I am going to have plenty of coolers and plenty of ice just in case.  Or maybe just to keep the beer cold

you can get a block of dry ice and it will work really good to cool it down. just make sure its not in direct contact with the meat

I saw a sign last week on 97A north of Davis Canyon road for 'Wild Game Processing'.  There's a string of homes on the road there. If someone knows what/who/how to contact them, that might be right in the area you're needing a freezer and meat service.

Good luck.

Another member on here recently took a bear. His was a nice bear and probably average...not tiny....not huge. He did a nice job field dressing and had opened it up from end to end....all the way up the throat. He was able to put the entire animal in a cooler with bags of ice in the bottom. It was laying on its back so the hide and thickest parts of the animal were in contact with the ice. It was chilled and cold to the touch under the hide. If you have a big enough cooler that could work just fine. As mentioned earlier....try and limit the direct contact with meat and ice. Good luck, happy hunting, and be safe.
