cheapo slip floats for salmon
« on: September 25, 2012, 05:05:19 PM »
I posted this on ifish, but thought it was a good enough idea to share here.  I have been looking for an inexpensive slip bobber for drifting eggs for salmon and came up with something that seems to work. I had a bunch of foam practice golf balls that I was no longer using that I got at Wally World several years ago, there are other things that would work, but those are what I happened to have lying around so that is what I used. Finding a tube that I can run the line through has been something that has stumped me. Yesterday while unpacking my kids’ lunch boxes a solution hit me. The little straws that come in juice pouches are perfect for that. I ran the straw through one golf ball and added a bit of wood glue and ran the straw through a second ball and Bingo, drift bobber. I can probably figure out how to post pictures if that makes my idea more clear, but in addition to being a cheapskate I am also pretty lazy and would rather not go to the effort.

the problem your gonna have is your line is going to cut into the juice box straw and get hung up in it. look for some aquarium air hose type stuff

I was concerned that the air hose might be too flexible, and was looking for something stiffer.  I can see how the line might cut into the straws though

Delta Tackle company makes Vinyl tubing in different colors seems like that would work good for ya, its a little stiffer than aquirium tubing, might be worth checking out. They are out of British Columbia but I bought their tubing at Wholesale Sports in Burlington. Good Luck, tight lines!    Delta Tackle  sales@deltatacklecompany.com

The blue q--tip sticks are hollow. A little superglue and you have a bobber...
