Sabot Slugs
« on: August 16, 2012, 10:34:39 AM »
Have been looking at slugs to run through my new 12 ga rifled barrel on my Mossberg 500. The Hornandy SST looks good and so does the Remington, but they sure are charging quite a bit does anyone know of a good Sabot that won't break my wallet.

I know you get what you pay for I usually buy Federal premium for my .300 and .30-06, but at least a guy gets 20 rounds instead of 5. Any experience with Sabots? Thanks

I haven't put one into an animal but from testing many of the sabot rounds through my 20g I can tell you they group far better than the cheaper slugs. The SST shot very well for me. I went with the Winchester Dual Bonds as my hunting round. Yes, they are expensive. However, if you tight groups then that is what is out there.

Hornady sst slugs flat out get it from my old wingmaster. Put down a buck at 168 yards last year right through the heart. Dead on hold, dead deer.

What are you using the slugs for? If on deer the SST is your best bet, if for elk or bigger game, i would look into the remington's and Winchesters.
There's more than one way to skin a cat, but that cat won't like any of them...
