Finally!!!
« on: September 07, 2012, 03:21:55 PM »
All packed up and ready.... This will be my first bear hunt of the year.... I broke my foot earlier in the year and it's still a little tender so I'm gonna take it a little easy... But I just gotta get outside finally... My Dad will be here around 5 am and then we'll head out.... Only gonna be a full day hunt because of wife working weekends and gotta get the kids when done but what the hell might get lucky...  Good luck to all the others out there!!!

I'm in the same boat as you. Badly sprained and fractured my ankle in June. It was good to get out and hike that first time. Take care, don't push it too hard and have a good time. I wish you luck.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!

Little sore today.... Gonna take it easy....

Got a little late of a start because two alarms didn't go off...   :bash:   Made it there about 15 minutes late... Hike in about 1 1/2 mi to glass the first cut and Dad goes to second.... These roads and trails are that round rock famous in Western WA... Not easy or very quiet going but there was a slight breeze... Enough to move the trees around a little.... I was just about to top out to glass the cut ravenes when my man card got pulled and my balls jumped into my throat... (still trying to find one) There was a covey of @ 15 quial on both side of the road that busted.... I also picked my butthole up and put it back then proceeded to the lookout... I didn't like the quial experience.... Niether did the the 3 BT bucks I spotted first thing heading straight to the timber.... A spike with velvet, a forky, and a 3 point that was tall and heavy.... Not too wide but definetly a shooter if my MD hunt doesn't pan out....

There's a depression in the other side of the hill I shot a bear out of twice... Brush is getting thicker and taller so I sat glassing for 25-30 minutes before I picked a bear out.... In the same hole... Trying to judge size was very hard and seeing if it had cubs damn near impossible... So I keep glassing it... Sure enough I see other bushes moving not far away.... Next thing I know I see a cub climb a Modrona while momma was shaking it...   :chuckle:  Bad parenting imo.... Watch them for a few more and head toward the other cuts by my Dad... Saw a yote but couldn't get a bead on him and Dad saw a doe and nice 2x3....

Head to some more cuts we split up again... I jumped a big, lone doe.... Stotted down the road for 100 yards before disappearing.... Nothing in the cut's I glassed... Kinda glad.... Two are pretty much cliffs!!!   :chuckle:  Dad caught a glimpse of something but wasn't sure....

Headed to another area with lots more cuts and miles of roads.... Didn't get 1 mile from the gate before we jumped a decent sized bear right on the side.... Barely got my gun up before it was gone.... Went over that whole area with Dad and discovered some new things about it..... Saw two more does and four bucks!!!!!  All were smaller but good to know... Couple forks with spikes.....

Sat on some big cuts for dark.... Right at last shooting light a bruin of a bear came out of the timber and fed across it... Not in my direction.... Staying 750-830 yards out.... No way to get into shooting range before dark... Jumped something on the way out but couldn't see...

Had a great time out with my Dad... Didn't expect to see so much game with the temps so high... But everything was pretty much in the thick stuff or on the shady sides.....  Probably won't get out for another week.... Good luck to you all...

Sounds like a good time with your dad, even with no game down. Good job.
