Help! Diagnose my car.
« on: September 09, 2012, 07:48:44 PM »
I am no mechanic. I have a '93 honda civic dx coupe.

It sounds like this sound is on the right side. It makes a vroom, vroom, vroom sound. It does not make the sound when I tap on the brakes, but immedietly when I lay off the brakes, it makes the sound again. The slower I go, the more spaced out the sound is. The steering does not pull at all. I did hit some nasty potholes before the sound started  :bash:

Since itt is front wheel drive jack the front wheels up and put it in gear then have a look where the sound is comming from.

When were your brakes done the last time?  Sounds like the worn brake indicator starting to kick in.

Bearing?  Does it click when you turn?  CV ball joint?

A bearing would make almost a grinding sound and be constant and wouldn't stop when brakes were applied, correct?

Something in the pads or stuck between the caliper.

Sometimes a bearing just starting to go bad will stop when you apply the brakes. Most likely is a worn brake pad on the wear sensor or a rock between the rotor and pad.

I think DoubleJ is right. When the sound started, I all of the sudden didn't have to push the brake down as much to stop, and I can't pull the e-brake up all of the way like I used to be able to.

dooms day diagnosis'.

What?  Your e-brake should be applying your rear brakes!  If problem is in front then this doesnt make sense?

Just take that little tab that sticks out from the end of the pad and scratches your rotor and makes the sound, and bend it out and you can get another 6 months before you actually NEED to change your brakes :chuckle:

I've never done this
