Remington 597 Screwup....
« on: September 05, 2012, 06:39:05 PM »
So here's the story, I bought a brand new Remington 597 at Walmart in 22lr for plinking. I get the gun home and as I look at it, I notice the barrel says it's chambered for 22 magnum. Now I'm wondering if I scored another 597 in a magnum? ( I already have a heavy barreled one ) Upon further inspection, everything else us set up for long rifle. I put the gun back in the box and email Remington. They say it's a Screwup and to just go ahead and use it as a 22lr. My first thought is, is that safe? What if someone grabs it and single loads a magnum if that would even work? Next, how in the he'll do you explain that story if you want to sell it? I guess right now, I will just let it stay in the box unfired.... Maybe it will be collectible???

Whaaaaaa?  You have got to be kidding me!?!

I would lean on the maker to replace the gun.

You would have to install a 22WMR with a hammer to get it into a 22lr chamber...
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

On a more serious note, I would check and see if it will chamber a 22M. If so you have a non functioning firearm and I would return it.

I'm surprised Remington doesn't want that rifle back, like right now! :o

I would call Remington back and ask them to replace the rifle.  It clearly states in their instruction manual to only chamber the ammunition that is marked on the barrel.  This is a major safety issue and must be corrected by Remington.
