Colville National Forest grouse
« on: September 24, 2012, 08:42:27 PM »
Went out for grouse this weekend, saw a ton of squirrel a couple deer but no grouse (I was only about 2500-3200ft up which I think was the source of my issues). My thoughts, do I need to go up higher and work less traveled roads? Ive just been driving the roads and occasionally getting out and walking a few miles along streams and drainages etc.

Thanks

All the grouse I've seen are near the 3-4500 ft elevation.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I think because we've had such little rain, they seem to all be located in wet spots.
The only ones I've seen this year are totally against all previous data I've collected on the subjuct of hunting them.

Right now..... the ones I saw/shot, were only about 25-50 ft elevation above/in/on rivers. You know, where theres aton more "Green".

I think they have no choice but to stay low while there is a drought.

Jimbo: "That's right, Stanley. Animals are much easier to shoot in the morning."

Grouse hatch was not very good, I'm pretty sure due to the June rains!  :twocents:

I noticed that higher mnts./hills on north to east side had later snow melt and are still wetter and greener.  That is where I saw the grouse. :twocents:
