2 Shows in a row on Sportsmens channel !!
« on: September 25, 2012, 07:49:04 PM »
I have sat here and watched the last 2 shows on sportsmens channel and both shows were about hitting deer with a mechanical broadhead and both bucks get away ...The first one was at 20 yds and hit high in the shoulder blade ...This arrow got about 1 1/2 of penetration and the second one was hit high about mid lung area and both of the bucks were shot from a tree stand ...now here is whats peeeeses me off  :dunno: :o After these bucks were hit both shows go on to say that both bucks lived and said they have trail cam pictures to back it up ...not saying this is not possible but I know for a fact if the buck that was hit in the shoulder was shot with a good fixed blade he would be dead ...as far as the other buck I can not say for sure ...Leaving a wound hole the size of a baseball and telling me its still alive is hard to believe ...Saw both deer run off and the holes were huge and when they showed pictures of the bucks still alive and not even the slightest hair out of place I have to call BS ... There is always the chance of making a mistake when shooting a bow and if I was to jerk the trigger or something and nail one in the shoulder I would prefer a fixed blade ...After those 2 shows you will never convince me that a mechanical is the way to go !!! This is my  :twocents: and I am sticking to it  ;) :yeah:

But! The WASP   will bounce off bears :chuckle:
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

I always told my hunting partner that mechanicals werent the way to go in the elk woods. he disagreed and has been running 125 grain schwackers (Montana). Hes shooting an 80 lb omen pro at 29 inches. flinging a 460 grain arrow at 330 fps (or really close) Anyways on saturday he shot a spike elk in the shoulder at 30 yards that I called in. Found his arrow and he got 3"s of penetration. The head broke off inside the insert, arrow was undamaged. I know the shot wasnt ideal, but I feel if he had been shooting a fixed steel head it would of crushed through the shoulder and gotten plenty of penetration to kill the elk quickly. Hard to say, but I wont ever be running mechanicals any time soon. Never had a problem getting fixed heads to shoot the same as my fp's so that argument doesnt hold up for me. You may get a larger cut, but if you cant get the penetration I dont see the point.
Never did find the elk and im still a bit heart broken over it.
