I love the "its too warm the migrators wont be here for the opener" posts  :chuckle:. I'd bet 95% of the mallards shot on the opening week are local birds. Mallards naturally migrate later than other ducks, pintails, wigeon, and some green wingers are migrating ducks as we have few of them that nest in this state.

Weather plays a relatively small factor in waterfowl migrations.

Not to pizz in your cornflakes. But how long have you been studying bird flight patterns. I think your arrival of ducks is way off.
Weather IS everything! Birds will only fly as far south as the food demand rquires them to.
Why was last year a bad year? Because the temps in BC were warmer than normal. Plus they had a freak Sept. wind storm that downed 10,000 acers of corn. Without being frozen out the ducks just hung out until late Jan. Weather has Everything to do with it.

I know that isn't true. Take a youth hunting. Take note of the amount of local birds. Then go out opening day. A lot more ducks on opening day. Plus I am seeing more, and more birds. Oh yea........ 8 1/2 more days      :rockin: :rockin: :rockin: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :whoo: :hunt2:  :chuckle:

Haha no it doesn't. Why don't you ever see anyone kill blue wing teal in washington? sure you'll see a few every once in a while but the majority migrate out before the season ever opens.

And I dont know why you said the season was bad last year. I killed 256 ducks and got my limit nearly everyday, and I am not hunting exclusively private land. Maybe 25% was done on private.

But I do know that you are a duck god and that you know everything there is to know about ducks so you can just think whatever you want.

I didn't attack you. You just got butt hurt. I'm still seeing blue wing. But you need to know where to look. If it stays warm they will still will be here. key word is warm not Oct. 13. I'm not saying it was bad year for everyone. But it was bad for most. And I'm far from a duck god. I learn every time out. I'm glad you shot 256 ducks. Some day numbers will stop being so important. And hunting will become fun for you. 20 yrs or so ago when I started shooting one less than to many. Hunting became fun. some days I just watch. I dont post birds harvested I dont need stroke.
But the few years I have been hunting Skagit. Mallards are always the first push in early Nov.

Hope you have another great year

Saw two high flying flights of Snows going over the Snohomish valley Sunday.  Probably heading for California...

Saw the same flock

It doesn't matter, seaducks come in later in the year anyway and there is plenty of water. No drought out there

We will do just fine, like every year past. Not trying to ruffle feathers but I agree with. 270.

Couple things, you never know who your really talking to. If you feel the need to throw numbers around even at 256 your going to be embarrassed. Last year was weird year, more birds but no weather meant pockets of birds but no mass migration.

I shoot bluewings, last three years straight. Last years opener.

Skagit is right, weather is everything. Watch closely and you will see patterns, you can also see a little reverse migration if it warms up.

Good news is, it's snowing in Alberta. It's dry in the Midwest there is no better combo....
