Wolves at Lewistown Montana

I just got off the phone with one of the ranchers where I hunt in Montana. He is only 5 miles from town, his neighbor's cattle were stampeded through two fences, there are wolf tracks in the cattle tracks, and the cattle will not stay in the pasture now. He said there are two packs that they know of in the Snowies south of Lewistown. Now they are coming in close to town.

I hunted antelope two years ago north of Judith Gap; we saw three wolves. I have a cattle rancher friend south of Harlowton that has seen wolves as well. They're very concerned.

I'll be hunting out of Lewistown in a month with my kids, my buddy told me a couple of weeks ago they confirmed a couple of kills east of town.

i have a friend with a ranch that the elk predominantly use on the western tip of the snowys and he is not happy! ive hunted the NF in the snowys and that is some rough country! i also hunted the judith river to the west in the little belts but i never saw any sign. such a shame that snowy herd was pretty amazing.

oh im sure they've already be around there if they're in lewistown. those wolves had to have come up from the south or east from the belts. its a shame, those island mt ranges were the last holdouts from the wolves.
