GPS and huntinggpsmaps.com = AWESOME!
« on: October 16, 2012, 12:25:12 PM »
This season I bought a Garmin Oregon 400 and downloaded huntinggpsmaps.com for WA State and it was the best money I ever spent!!!!!!!

I was on land locals thought was "private" until I showed them it was actually DNR land that was barb wire fenced because range cattle are only allowed to free range on DNR land not WDFW or private land! Had the place almost to myself except for one other hunter walking the ridge and it was LOADED with sign!

This program not only shows you what's private, but lists their names if available!! Pretty cool if you are confronted by a land owner, they tend to take you seriously when you know their name and show them their property boundaries on your device!

There was also a road that forked at a guys house, the road to the right was a DNR right of way to DNR land behind his property, he had it gated so everyone just turned around and left, however, it was just a range gate and not posted...drove right through! Made sure to close the gate behind me and gave the guy a wave, no problem!

What a tool to have! I would have paid twice what I invested after using it, excellent tool!

if its the hcx model (if it has a place for a chip in the back) you should be good to go.

If its the first model it will work but there is only 64mB of on board memory so you would be limited on what you could use.    Also if you would need to use the download version because there is not a place to put a micro sd card.

call us or pm me if you have any questions on these because we a fully authorized reseller of huntinggpsmaps and can probably get you a pretty good deal.

I have the 655rino and just ordered this.  Everytime I went to cabelas it was sold out!  The garmin birdseye app is what you want if your looking for google earth images.  I have it as well and it is well worth the 30$.  I love it.  I have half the state downloaded on my 655, it has 4g memory_wow!  I cant wait for sd card huntmap.  Tired of slow assesor sites.

I have tried just about every map setup around for the Garmin's I can find.

I Personally like TraxMaps and Garmin's 24K maps better when hunting National forest and when I don't care about the Land owner names.   Their maps layer and zoom in and out better.

These HuntingGPSMaps are invaluable when you need to know who owns the property, (ie Private Timber companies)

On the New GPS systems, I normally have 2-3 Different Maps on the same GPS so I can turn them on or off as needed.  Including the Birdseye stuff.

Another Great Resource is gpsfiledepot.com   you can download Free maps for different Area's and such.

None of them have all the Roads right,  I Sometimes have the 100K maps show a Road the 24K map doesn't,  Sometimes the Garmin has one the HuntingGPS Map doesn't ect.   It's all a matter of where they pull their data from to build the maps.

Ya I dont have answer to that.  Pointless unless you have no maps.  They need to tell people.  Cabelas guy didnt tell me untill I asked him specifically.  The individual state maps do what we want, the other is just your standard 24k map.

There are Pro's and Con's with them all.   I just remembered one of the big reasons I didn't like the HuntingGPSMaps was the way they did the elevations.

I've taken a screen shot of each of the maps in an area that shows Private Property , Private Timber land, and State Land.   They all show National forest so I didn't worry too much about that.

Garmin24K
Garmin 100K
TraxMaps
HuntingGPSmaps (Washington land owners)

Hopefully this helps folks see the difference without spending 100 dollars a pop to find out.
