Any auto painters out there???
« on: July 27, 2012, 05:07:24 PM »
So, i am almost ready to prep and paint my 71 chevelle.I am having a hard time picking out where to buy materials ( paint, poly primer  base and clear). Every place i get a quote on varies in price by alot and i dont know which one is a good quality and price.

I guess what i am asking is , where to buy and what brand.I noticed Napa has a low and high quality base but the high cost $800  :o

Been painting professionally for 25+ years ,been using PPG for the last 15.
To start with get out of the autoparts store.
A 71 chevelle is a car that is worthy and deserving of spending the extra money on quality materials
in my shop $800 is very low material price when your talking primer /sealer/base/clear
big question is how long do you want the paintjob to last and what kind of quality are you looking for
Where are you from could make a difference in what materials you could get away with using
price generally = quality / quality = longevity durability and uv protection
find a autobody supply store pick their brains
depending on where you are located i may be able to point ya in the right direction
P.S
Don't get hasty and do something that your gonna regret in 2 years
SEE YA IN THE FIELDS

Thanks for the advice Flinger, I live in Granite Falls and i think i am going to use Matrix paint , it will be about $1000.00 for all materials , I want to start block sanding it now but need some pointers so i dont screw it up( wish i was closer). I will post pics as soon as it is done.
