Dandy from NW PA
« on: November 07, 2012, 02:09:07 PM »
I have hunted this area of Pennsylvania, and there are some giants back in the swamps and hemlocks. Nice to see a good buck from where I spent a lot of time as a kid. From the caption, this guy has had some good hunts the last couple of years. Enjoy.

Where did you live back there c-money? My mom and stepdad live in Sharon, PA in the northwest corner. My stepdad takes a nice buck there just about every year with his bow. Hes told me some stories about some giants hes seen but never sealed the deal on.

I have family between Meadville and Edinboro. Its been 3 years since I have been back there. I am really gonna be home sick the Monday after Thanksgiving! :'( My Brother and Uncle have some dandy's showing up on game cameras on their properties. There is a few other Western PA natives on here as well. With all this great hunting out here, I still long to spend the PA rifle opener at my favorite spot on the edge of some hemlocks looking out into the swamp.

I've visited back there a few times and it definitely looks like some real good hunting ground. I don't do archery but maybe one of these days I may have to go back during season and do some hunting with my stepdad!

You should go for it. Usually see quite a few deer, its just a blast.  A hunting licence and buck tag is cheap for non residents, just over $100. When I go back, I apply for a doe tag as well. I also hit Walnut creek and steelhead fish. I fish more if I tag out. The stealhead fishing is superb on the Erie tribs.

:yike: Wow thats damn good for a non-resident license. The steelhead fishing would make the trip well worth it for sure!

Non resident hunting with buck tag is $101.70. If you draw a doe tag, $26.70. Great hunt for the price. Crappy part is the airfare to get there! :chuckle:

Some fine bucks coming from Pa ...This family is seriously thinking of heading back ...  want my boys to experience what my child hood was like ...Squirrel hunting ..shooting groundhogs ...whitetail ..and most importantly killing some eastern turkeys and being able to do some trapping again ...Yeah I think next year I am getting the heck out of here  :dunno: I will miss elk and bear hunting but I have taken enough and they all will be going with me to Pa ...FOR $2800.00 I can have a semi haul it all back there !

Don't blame you Bowhunter45. It is a great place to raise kids.  My Uncle has had a good trapping year so far. More I think about fall in PA, the more homesick I get. I need to start saving for a plane ticket for next year.
