Americans Fearing Weapons Ban Load Up On Guns and Ammo

Americans Fearing Weapons Ban Load Up On Guns and Ammo

Thousands of Americans are rushing to their local gun stores to buy high-powered rifles and ammunition in a bid to thwart a potential assault weapons ban in the wake of last week’s Connecticut school massacre, Fox News reports.

At a Cincinnati gun show, "sales were through the roof on Saturday," Joe Eaton of Ohio’s Buckeye Firearms Association told the network.

"People were buying everything they could out of fear the president would try to ban certain guns and high-capacity magazines."

And in Colorado, an official at Colorado Bureau of Investigation told Fox the agency processed more than 4,200 background checks on Saturday, the day after the shootings.

The hot-selling model is the AR-15 – the same firearm used by gunman Adam Lanza — along with the powerful .223 ammunition it uses.

More than three million Americans own an AR-15, which gun store owners say buyers like because “it's the civilian version of the fearsome M-16 used by the U.S. military,’’ CBS News reports.

Sunbirds in Chehalis  were completey out of .40 and .45 ammo along with 223. Why would pistol ammo be selling out?

I think speculation is also driving the market.
I figure there are a lot of buyers picking up AR's and related stuff who do not intend to ever fire it, hold it for ahwile then double their profits.

the other side of the coin is if it's doesn't pan out they have bought high and will end up selling low!!

I believe that the reason why .40 and .45 ammo are gone is because of 2 things:

1. More people are purchasing concealable guns to protect themselves and are purchasing these types of pistols.

2. The proposed weapons ban that keeps getting talked about involves banning both AR type rifles and any semi-auto pistols that carry 9+ rounds.
Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate. - Psalm 127:3-5

My wife andI went to Wally World tonight and holy cow people
Damn near fighting over ammo. All the AR type 22LR rifles were  either sold or pending NICS
Seen one lady buying a pink single shot 22 LR telling the clerk she will sleep better now.

Unbelievable that it is coming to this so quickly.
I am so glad I have been adding ammo and arsenal to my family fund.
Over the years could not imagine going through it now.For a lot of reasons.

Came across $400 stripped lowers today

$35 pmags selling by the hand fulls.

Even heard the sales guy calling a valued customer to let them know they had 1 scar sitting in the back and if he wanted it it would be $6k.

This place is over priced to begin with but almost every "assult weapon" on the wall was gone (50+ weapons) not to mention however many they had in the back

Pretty much all .223 ammo on Midway USA was backordered. Went into Cabelas two days ago, bought some 9mm rounds, they still had a ton in stock of ammo..but I bet it is headed out the door.

See, government can cause an economic turnaround. :chuckle:

So funny. Pmags are nice but not that much better than a standard gi mag. Even more so since 95% of people who buy them don't go to combat with them.

all the stuff I have bought at Federal way discount this last week has been the normal price. I would rather pay $300 for a striped AR-10 lower today than wait until all AR's are banned for civilian sales next month. Because they will reinstate the weapons ban that's a given Hi cap mags gone I'm sure. And the chance people will be selling AR's in the future if nothing happens for $500 or less not good luck waiting.

Yeah.  Never owned one, but I heard its the plastic lips.  When they first came out, when you loaded a mag, put it in your LBV, left it for awhile, when it came time to use it the lips had deformed and the rounds just started falling out.

I have a plastic mag that is re-enforce with metal in the lip area.  I think pmag just uses a stupid cap thing to push the rounds down and releave the pressure on the lips.  But, like I said that is just what I have heard.  :dunno:
