NBC's David Gregory to be investigated for brandishing
« on: December 25, 2012, 09:34:04 AM »
David Gregory seems to disregard D.C.'s strict gun laws to make a point. This caught the eye of some legal folks. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, hope he gets busted. I've really learned to despise this guy for ruining the "Meet the Press" show.

DC Police Investigating NBC's Gregory for Brandishing Illegal Magazine

Washington D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier has confirmed that the department is looking into allegations that NBC's David Gregory violated D.C.'s gun banning laws during a recent taping of Meet the Press.

In a discussion about gun control, host David Gregory brandished a 30-round magazine purportedly for an AR-15 or similar "assault rifle."  The discussion took place on December 23, during the broadcast of NBC's Sunday morning political talk show.

Washington D.C.’s gun laws, however, state that even possessing such a device is a violation. Meet the Press is filmed at NBC's D.C. studios.

The law in question is titled: DC High Capacity Ammunition Magazines – D.C. Official Code 7-2506.01, and reads (my bold):
Quote
(b) No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. For the purposes of this subsection, the term large capacity ammunition feeding device means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition. The term large capacity ammunition feeding device shall not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.
Breitbart contacted the office of the police chief and asked if there were any plans to look into this apparent violation of the District's gun laws. In response, Chief Lanier replied, "Yes, we are investigating the incident to determine if the magazine was in fact real."

I have always thought it was strange how they make such a big deal about high capacity mags.
For one someone who practices dropping a mag and slapping a new one in can do it extremely fast and I would imagine that the high capacity magazines are more prone to failing

Facts and realities are not going to be welcome into the current anti-gun craziness. Not even considered. The antis have been building this case for years and all they needed was a critical mass of news events so they could take advantage of the frenzy. They know they have a narrow window of opportunity to try to build enough public opinion to get some kind of control on the books. Having the press and lap dogs like Gregory working for them is just icing on the cake. I would even doubt they have the votes today. They have to beat the war drums as hard as possible and get enough gelding politicians to sign up for it before the frenzy dies down and the lousy economy again becomes the big news story. What a pathetic time we are living in.... :bash:

Maybe, maybe not. Found this little tidbit, never heard of it before. There are a bunch of topics that you can vote on to send a petition to the White House.

I have to believe somebody is keeping an eye on it. It's worth a shot. (pun intended)
I registered and voted....now I'm probably on some government "watch list".  :yike:

So we all want the freedom to exercise our right to own firearms and "high capacity" magazines, but just because we don't agree with this guy we want him prosecuted for having one? That doesn't seem at all hypocritical to anyone?

Most of us are trying to live within the existing laws no matter how much we disagree with them. Gregory is either flaunting the existing laws in D.C. or ignorant of them. Wanting the freedom to exercise 2nd amendment rights is a whole different subject. If there is hypocrisy anywhere, it's in guys like Gregory trying to make a political point and trying to further limit our second amendment rights by flaunting an existing law. Determining whether ownership of a 30 rd magazine fits within the 2nd amendment is yet another different discussion.

He demonstrated just how effective that law really is....

A law is only effective if it can garner a majority of people's voluntary compliance. If most people go along with the limitations set forth by a law, then it could be considered effective. The government has to define sanctions for those who would violate any law and be able to back it up with law enforcement. If people start to see other people openly flaunting the law without prosecution, the law becomes effectively invalid. Think prohibition, marijuana, etc. If D.C. doesn't come down on Gregory, they could start having problems enforcing other bans since they would have effectively set a precedent.

When he has to testify he will get a stomach flu and get a bump on his head. They will then have to suspend a trial indefinitely while he recovers.
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.
