At skagit arms today.
« on: December 31, 2012, 05:29:25 PM »
They had an ak style for  rife $999.99 desert color grips and stalk, why are these type weapons cheaper than ar's? Are they not made in USA?

That's a lot of cash for four beer cans stamped into a rifle.  I have one with awesome Chinese gum wood grips and stock.  I wonder if I can get a grand for it?  This is getting ridiculous.

AK style rifles are no comparison to the AR platform, they were never designed to be.  Something about getting them into the hands of every peasant as cheaply as possible, rather than built for professional armies.

Probably a 300 blackout. I think smith and wesson is the only one marking theres both 300 whisper and 300 black out.

Right now yes. Pretty much any of the 300 blk 308 and 223 is very hard to find right now.

The 300blk is a 223 case cut down and necked to 30 cal.

I think the 300 whisper is a 221 case cut down and necked up if I remember right. I think most guns chambered in either will fire both. I know the smith and wesson gun can as it has it marked on the barrel.

In 09, a buddy went and toured a very prominent bullet manufacturer as part of an NRA deal.  They were running their machines 24/7.  They were producing an astronomical amount of .223 bullets a day, and were still 3 months behind on civilian orders..   The military contracts were sucking up all the ammo at that time.

Just as john has said they run pretty much 24/7 and there is many comapines out there right now as well. Hoarding has claimed a lot of the extra stuff right now.

You would think they would increase factory size to increase production.

Yeah most the time they can handle what is going on. It is when you get a surge from hoarding or military use and etc. That throws a monkey wrench into the mix. 98% of the time they can make enough, so I think that is why they don't expand more.

Ya, and then as soon as supply catches the demand, they now have un-needed machines, buildings and employees. Right after that they go out of buisiness because the bills for expanding catch up with them.
