UPDATE: Washington Gun Owners Under Assault

 |  March 12th, 2013 at 10:51 PM  |

I’ve written previously about Washington State House Bill 1588 (please see here, here, and here) and we’re nearing the end. The Washington State House of Representatives has until 5:00PM (PDT) tomorrow, Wednesday March 13, to deal with this assault on legal gun owners. If the House passes this bill, it goes to the State Senate, and if they don’t, it dies (for now).

The Democrat controlled House was scheduled to vote on HB 1588 last night, and they didn’t  They were supposed to vote on it this afternoon and didn’t.  The vote was rescheduled for this evening, but the day ended without the vote happening. Rep. David Taylor (R, 15th LD) posted the following on Facebook: “Folks, stay focused and vigilant … THIS IS NOT OVER. Sleep well ladies and gentlemen, for tomorrow is another fight.” Rep. Taylor is absolutely right; the fight is not yet over.  The gun-grabbers in the Democrat Party, and Republican Rep. Mike Hope, have one more day to pass the bill, which means we have one more day to fight it.

I would ask all Washington State patriots to call your legislators again to express your support for both the U.S. and Washington State Constitutions and your opposition to HB 1588. The pressure that you’ve all been applying to them may be working. I’d also ask you to do one other thing: Pray. Pray for wisdom, strength and perseverance for the brave men and women who are standing for liberty in Olympia. Ask God to give them favor with their fellow legislators. Finally, pray for courage for those who are going to go to the floor of the House to speak out against this terrible bill.

PLEASE Call the Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 to OPPOSE HB1588

For those who haven't called you will find it is as easy -if not easier than emailing-  (they do the typing)
Give your name, address and tell them you are calling to Oppose HB1588, they forward the information to your constituents.
With luck this is the end game -

OLYMPIA, Wash. - A bill that would have required background checks for all gun sales appeared to be dead Tuesday night.
The prime sponsor of the bill, Rep. Jamie Pedersen, D-Seattle, said he did not have enough support in the House.
Currently background checks are only required when guns are purchased at licensed dealers.
Private sales and those at gun shows do not require background checks.

Yes sir Swannytheswan I believe it is- less they pull a fast one at the last minute.  Best news I have heard all week.

Major Washington gun bill fails in state House :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Gun-bill-proponents-secure-key-vote-in-state-legislature-197689511.html

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - A contentious proposal to expand background checks on Washington state gun sales failed Tuesday in the state House, where supporters said they were just a handful of votes short.

Rep. Jamie Pedersen, D-Seattle, had proposed a referendum clause that would have allowed the public to vote on the measure. He initially believed that was enough to corral the 50 votes needed to pass the bill but conceded Tuesday night that others had dropped their support.

"It was too big of a stretch for this year," Pedersen said.

Supporters of gun control had seen this year as the greatest chance for major changes in state law, with the public still reeling from the massacre of children at a Connecticut elementary school. The National Rifle Association, however, led a broad campaign in the state to block the bill, with opponents of the measure saying it wouldn't stop gun violence and arguing that it was the first step to a registry of gun owners.

Gun buyers currently must undergo a background check when they purchase a weapon from a federally licensed firearms dealer. Pedersen's proposal, crafted in conjunction with Republican Rep. Mike Hope, would have extended background checks to cover private gun transactions.

Hope, a Seattle police officer, had expressed concern that criminals are bypassing the current system of background checks and acquiring guns through private transactions. He said the proposal won't stop gun violence but would make it harder for criminals to get weapons.

no offence to those that like him but hope = oathbreaker.

So you stop calling or paying attention. It was supposed to go for a final vote 2 or 3 different times, but the Dems demurred. They'll put it off till the last minute so people think it's dead, then try to cram it through like every other piece of crap they try to sneak through. Today is the cutoff for the bill. If they don't vote on it today, it's dead.

The first link posted was the most recent link about the story. They have until 5pm today to vote, which they have abstained from doing thus far.

If you look at the bills actual status, it is not dead....yet.

To further complicate matters- these aren't truly dead until the last moment of the session on April 28.

Several bills die as deadline passes in state legislature
http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Several-bills-die-as-deadline-passes-in-state-legislature-197892791.html

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A crucial deadline has come and gone at the state legislature -- 5 p.m. Wednesday was the deadline for bills to pass either the state House or the Senate.

The biggest casualty so far is the effort to require background checks on all firearms purchases. Sponsors fell a couple of votes short.

"It's not surprising that there'll be some setbacks," said Rep. Jamie Pedersen. "And that gives an opportunity for people to talk about the issue and regroup and figure out how to do it right next time."

But another gun measure did make it out of the House -- a bill requiring felons in gun crimes to register, much like sex offenders register.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Mike Hope, says it's modeled on registries in New York City and Baltimore.

"We saw huge reductions in homicides in those cities and now that's moving over to the Senate with huge bipartisan support," Hope said.

But other key bills that aren't making it passed the deadline include:

* A measure requiring girls under 18 to let their parents know before getting an abortion.
* A measure starting the family leave act (which gives temporary income for working parents of newborns or adopted children.)
* A measure notifying parents when a sex offender is enrolled in their children's school.
* A measure giving residents of Mercer Island special options should I-90 get tolling.

Beating Wednesday's deadline was a bill that mandates parents be told as soon as possible if their child is placed in an isolation room at school.

Other measures making it before the deadline: One that toughens the penalties in courtroom assaults, one that toughens the penalties for rendering criminal assistance, and a measure that prevents employers from demanding your Facebook ID and password.

Now these measures head to the opposite house where their fate is unknown.

"We send a strong message, let's no play politics," said Sen. Rodney Tom, the coalition majority leader. "We've gone with the R and D theme, both people are on board and let's do some of these bills that are good for Washington state."

Even though 5 o'clock was the cutoff, in reality bills at the state legislature aren't truly dead until the last moment of the session on April 28.

not out of the woods yet as they said they will regroup.
Hope should be the one to register from what I've seen he's acted more like a felon than anyone else.
I notice the language changes from something bad to something good when people seem to be duped into thinking they need it.
Meaning they use language like weve seen god rusults with etc... or patterned after........... That bill is just like the one on California now make no mistake. That registry bill is about disarming people, albeit what people might think is acceptable now but warning now. Release ballons in the air like in Florida felon disarmed. you unknowngly hit a rabbit felon. er like they say gun felon ok shoot a butterfly while bird hunting felon etc.. This list will grow.
