tannery options
« on: January 18, 2013, 08:48:34 AM »
So I'm trying to do my first deer mount this year and having trouble finding a place to tan the hide.  I was hoping to get ideas on a good tannery that does quality work hopefully near central wa but if I'm shipping it I guess it doesn't matter where it is.  Also what can I expect to pay roughly?  Thanks in advance

Did you turn everything , flesh it and salt it? Ive moved out of washington for all my tanning, everyone I have used here has been seriousely incompetant. Glacier in Montana ,they take capes from individual non taxidermists, they do good work but you need to prep the cape if you havent already.

I have fleshed and turned everything and was waiting to salt it because a friend was going to look it over and make sure it was done before salting so it's been in the freezer.  He has not gotten back to me, hes been busy, so I'm tired of waiting.  I was going to get some salt and salt it right after I found a good tannery.

Any idea what I can expect to pay at Glacier?

No taxidermy Tan there, just leather and skins as far as I know.

My son Teacherman has used moyels (sp), in Hayden Id.  They do an excellent job on furs and such and there prices are great.

There are a few threads about that place here. They lost some peoples stuff and took forever to get last seasons stuff back to folks. This year when I dropped my bear off at a new taxi one of the first questions I asked him was making sure he DOES NOT use Kettle Falls Tannery.
