anybody hunt the Klickitat or Goldendale area?
« on: January 30, 2013, 04:30:08 PM »
I have seen a lot of dogs while out archery deer hunting and I have gone back to those areas and called but still nothing. If anybody hunts these areas could you give maybe a little advice or maybe let me tag along sometime and show me how to get it done. I have an e-caller and a jack in the box if that would be helpful.

Could you be more specific of where you hunt in Klickitat County and Goldendale? I don't know why you can't call anything in, maybe watch some videos on calling. The only other idea would be where you are trying is getting hunted a lot for yotes and they have learned not to come in.

I hunt in random spots I wouldn't think that they would get called at a lot or maybe I am doing something wrong. Do you just run a call and leave it running or do you change it up. How long do you sit. I have sat several times for 20 to 30 mins and have yet to connect.

I have only called in a few times. After I go to a spot I don't call or move for about 10-15 mins then I have sat there calling for a good hour or so.

aer212 and carpsniper are locals in Goldendale and do pretty well at killing yotes. Maybe nicely ask them in a PM and see what they say.

Persistance pays off. Somtimes you can do everything right and they still don't come in. Try and setup so you have a good view of your downwind. You might be calling them in and they are smelling you and you never saw them. Sit in front of something to break up your outline and keep movement to a minimum. It's a numbers game, get out as much as you can.

Like mentioned before. aer212 & his group (E.C.C.) hunt that area. They have been hunting it pretty hard since Nov. Just from Coyote Madness, they have taken at least 40 dogs out of there.

Explain to us , how you go about doing one of your stands.

One hour seems like a long time, for coyote hunting.   20-30min tops is what I'm doing, unless I can see one slowly working its way in. Then I'll wait him out.

This is not what you want to hear but i promise that abvice in coyote hunting will do no good.  If we aint tagging along and actually pointing out mistake or things you could do different, there is not much anyone could tell you.  It really boils down to going as much as you can, and learning what you did right when it all comes together.  There is way to much that can be done wrong or right to just tell you what to do and have it make a difference in the field.  I have gone to seminars from the pros and had them tell me what not to do and there is always that one time that what they told you NOT to do, you do it and it worked for you.  I have done setups that you could take a picture of and put in on the cover of any predator mag and hunters would drool and buy the mag and still called nothing, then went a mile up the road and did a quicky stand that wasnt worth 5 minutes and called in a double.  Just go a lot and learn from when it works and when it dont.

Careful where you go if you go out box canyon, the timber land over there is not open to the public.
