Sage Rats are out...
« on: February 07, 2013, 06:40:14 AM »
I saw both sage rats and rock chucks out yesterday...

FYI
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

 :yeah:

I lost my dad last June (motorcycle accident).  That was one of our favorite things to do.  We could get 10-25 rock chucks a day in another field. But that was better use for the .17hmr.
Anybody know of a place to go get some of those vermin? Preferably off of I-90, and the closer to the west side the better...

I am in the Wenatchee area and would love to find a place for sage rats, prairie dogs, or ground hogs. I have not found any close and miss the shoots.

Anyone have an area they would share?

If you contact just about any farmer in the Yakima valley I think you would be received pretty well.  I think it was a grape or apple farmer that let me and my Dad shoot them as much as we wanted, and paid us $.10 for each body we brought him.  Paid for some of our ammo, I think the .22 we were using was about $.04 per round, but it was obviously just for fun and helping him out.  He hated those little buggers.  Sure wish I could remember where on earth that was...
Also, I worked with a guy who used to shoot them in Idaho a lot, and he found spots by calling county and farming town sheriff's offices and asked them if any of their deputies knew of good spots.  He said that yielded the best spots he ever had ever been able to shoot on.

Just remember... This type is a no shooter.
Most of the Yakima/Wenas "sage rats" are this type of rodent. Washington State Ground Squirrel is a protected species.
