Only issue is they s*ck in the rain and get fogged up

I had actually wondered if contacts would be better, but then couldn't afford to get them without any eye coverage. Anyone switch to contacts?

Been wearing glasses since I was 5 yrs old, and I do not have any issues while shooting my bow. However when hunting I wear contacts just to eliminate the possibility of light reflecting off the lens and scaring away the prey. Plus no chances of fogging up. But I do practice while wearing glasses just in case I loose a contact lens (which has happened).

I'm jealous you can wear contacts for all the reasons you listed.

I'll wear my contacts when im doing activities like trapshooting (in order to wear my colored shooting glasses), hunting (i hate hunting in glasses; fog up get sweat on them then dirt sticks to them etc etc) Fishing (so i can wear polarized sunglasses to see into the water better) any type of sport mostly hockey glasses dont fit under my helmet.

my eye doc said i have one of the worst astigmatisms hes ever seen and astigmatisms are really hard to correct for with contacts the contact maker has to make corrections to the spherical and planar axis of the eye.  I have to get custom made toric contact lenses they arent cheap like $150 a box (a box is 6 lenses for one eye) so for 6 pair of lenses its $300.  thats mostly the main reason i wear my glasses daily and am picky when i wear contacts they say you can get about 30 days out of a pair of contacts i can usually stretch a 6 month supply of contacts to close to a year.

so in short yes contacts can be better, mostly depends on how expensive contacts would be for your specific prescription and your comfort level with contacts i know some people that hate them and some people just cant get passed having to put something on their eye.

heck just get lasik done  and be done with it  :chuckle:

For those of you who wear glasses....do you shoot with or without them? Do you have to modify anything to adjust for the glasses?

I recently started wearing glasses and havent had a chance to shoot but have drawn my bow a couple of time and it doesn't seem like I will be able to do it accurately. It looks like I am looking between the bridge and the lenses. Is this something I can work around or am I doomed to be a rifle hunter again?

Occasioanlly with contacts, mostly with glasses.  FIre in the hole, no difference other than FOGGING UP

there is a trick to keeping your glasses from fogging up.

Take some dish soap and smear it on your lenses. Let it dry. Then buff lenses with dry lint free cloth. (Don't use a paper towel. It will actually scratch you lenses.) Ta-da no more fogging up. Untill you wash them , then the procedure needs to be repeated.

I use this trick on my bathroom mirror as well. No more steamed up mirror after getting out of the shower.

Does that create a haze affect on your glasses?  I've tried those no flog clothes for goggles.  Followed the direction and it left a visible film that made everything look hazy.

That's why you have to buff them out after the soap dries.  It works, try it.

Right.  There's a final buff/wipe step with the no fog cloth, so that's why I asked.  Maybe I didn't do it right or something.   :dunno:  Anyway, I'll give it a try.  Thanks for the tip.

I took my shotgun to my optomotrist so he could understand my head position when shooting.

Good idea but if I walked into Group Health with a shotgun, I'm not sure how far I would get.   :yike:

I let him know ahead of time. No problem.

I shot with out glasses for years, now I need to shoot with them, the big change I had to make was to change where I anchored my string, for years I anchored on the end of my nose, now I have to put the string to the side of my nose to keep my head more straight up and down.

Invested in Lasix some years back after wearing coke bottle glasses since I was about 5 yrs old.  Best hunting investment I ever made.
At 60+ years, I am wearing readers to see small stuff close up or to read much of anything in low light.
As years go by, it becomes more difficult to focus more than one distance at a time.  Found my sight pins were becoming more difficult to see sharply, especially in low light
Tried shooting with special made glasses to shapen pins, but then was back to the same old problems ya get with glasses.
They make optically adjusted peeps & sights that work fairly well, but they have a lens too.
No way of getting around the heat vs cold = fog issue.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

I generally wear glasses all the time while hunting. currently i wear these http://www.oakley.com/products/6670/24886 I have all the bells and whistles on the lenses. I wear contacts when i can remember to either put them in before I leave to hunt which then leaves the possibility of forgetting to pack my glasses just incase i have trouble with my contacts. Or im all out of contacts so I have to wear glasses. My next step is lasik one of these days since rain is my #1 enemy. And i hate having to deal with contacts in the summer when my allergies are hit and miss with my eyes.

I learned how to shoot a bow while wearing glasses so its no trouble to me, but I can see some adjusting being needed if you never had them before. I actually find it easier on my eyes to focus using glasses instead of contacts, but then again I wear glasses while shooting 95% of the time.
